40W would probably be fine. But I don't think I want any more combos. I think Les Paul's are too heavy. There are used DSL40 combos for like 4 bills on used GC. That's CHEAP if you are good with the 40w vs. the 100 watter.

See my edit. $54940W would probably be fine. But I don't think I want any more combos. I think Les Paul's are too heavy.![]()
Yeah, I've turned up a couple DSL100H heads in this price range. But that's still enough money that $830 for a brand new amp (with more features, that I can send back if I want to) starts to look more attractive.See my edit. $549

Ahh I didn't catch that new price. Agreed completely on grabbing a new one.Yeah, I've turned up a couple DSL100H heads in this price range. But that's still enough money that $830 for a brand new amp (with more features, that I can send back if I want to) starts to look more attractive.
So far, PCB-mounted tubes sounds like the only significant drawback to the HR. Generally speaking, I like "modern" and "smooth", so long as it will still do that Marshall crunchy/ chimey thing.

I love this, but buying a preamp sends me back rabbit hole-spelunking trying to find the right power amp, speakers, etc. One could argue that I've already got these bases covered with the QC anyway. I'm just kind of having that FOMO moment of, "OK Marshall, this is how the big boys do it? Hit me with your best shot."Here's a wrinkle for you @mbenigni

Run it into your cabA friend of mine just offered to lend me his DSL40 combo, so I'll be able to test the waters before doing anything too stupid.
(Sorry for the thread hijack...)

Yeah, for god's sake don't run the 40 with it's stock cab/speaker. It wasn't until I ran it into a Recto 2x12 that I realized how good it was.Run it into your cab![]()
I feel like Doug Aldrich has a very particular tone preference that is a huge ton of mids and not a ton of presence. It works great for his playing, but I just don't see it quite doing it for mine. To me the Blackstar sounds...alright, like pretty much everything Blackstar.I watched that last night and thought that amp sounded pretty damn good!
Knowing how much output those Suhr Aldrich pickups have, I’m really curious to hear it with some different pickups as they’re most certainly responsible for about 35% of the dirt in that vid.
I'm also a bit surprised Doug went with Blackstar
