Digital Delay after Dirt Pedals

Hi All,

I'm battling to get decent delay from my Joyo Digital Delay.

This pedal is placed after my Dirt Pedals ( MT-2 / Fangs etc) and my EQ...

I cant hear any delay at all.

What may be the problem?

That's a bit odd as it's generally tricky to get a delay sitting right when it's placed before the preamp, usually it works in the opposite direction in that you gotta turn the mix lower to 'tame' it. If it has stereo outs, make sure you’re coming out of the Mono (usually Left) out.

Most of the time, running delays into the input of the amp is aimed towards classic rock type tones as back in the day it was the only way they could actually use delay, but after the 80’s as effects loops became common place, delays started going in the effects loops where it’s much easier to control and often times less noisy. If there’s a ‘Send’ and ‘Return’ on your amp, that’s the effects loop.

Ok, I'll be the one: The Joyo just sucks. (I guess?)

I hated Delay up until I bought a new DD8. Before it I only had cheap ass delays and hated them (after "dirt")

My tip is to get hold of a better one. Or get one from a friend or a retailer (if you can use money-back) to try our to see if it's worth the extra money.

For me it was. It was like "ah, so *THAT'S* how a delay should sound. Why did I not do this years ago?"

It depends on how the preamp is dialed in. If it is gained up, things get freaky fast. If it’s clean with plenty of dynamic headroom it should work fine. What makes things tricky is the compression that occurs when the preamp gain is turned up.

I'd agree with that. I've gotten some pretty great results with the Plexi50 w/ a delay in front, but nothing on par with Gilmour's delay use, which makes sense as he uses those HiWatts specifically for the clean headroom.

I’ve been mucking about lately with an analog delay in front of my Studio JTM, which has been a lot of fun for noodling around with.

I kinda agree.

I think Boss is the way to go!

All my other Joyo pedals have been fantastic other than the Pocket Metal.

I guess the delay wasn’t their best work…

I dug my Marshall MG100DFX ( I know it’s a hated amp ) out from storage which has a built in delay and Chorus, while also offering an effects loop.
The pedal seems to be better in the loop, and the built in delay works fantastically!

I think I may just switch to this for the time being
