Darkglass Anagram - NAM profile player & multieffects unit

I am not sure the point. It doesn't matter if Doug or Doug plus a VC fund formerly owned Darkglass. Korg buying it does not represent VC's taking over the tech. If anything it is the opposite. Well established industry players are acquiring/taking over/controlling the tech.

I don't see VC's taking over anything or playing a significant role besides NDSP. It seems like mostly a game of big boys and established niche players vs Chinese low price companies. You do have private equity involved with companies like Gibson/Mesa but PE is different and innovation has never been their strong point.

Quite a few of your household music tech companies are part or outright owned by VC. Native Instruments for example.

Personally I think you're getting caught up on semantics, but fair enough. But my point remains, these companies that go through acquisition after acquisition, selling off assets in order to fund other assets, are largely not consumer friendly, and largely churn out landfill dogshit.

Yeah, but $1000+ just to load captures? And effects that will not play great with guitar to begin with?

If NAM is so important in your life, there's stuff like the Dimehead for half the price.

Keen to see the release of this thing but the value proposition is kind of already a dud. $1000 EUR for a bass focused multifx unit that can load NAM profiles. It would be a no brainer for them to load a bunch of guitar FX on there so I reckon wait and see. Even with guitar FX on there its still a hefty chunk of change if you're looking for a NAM player. I guess more options are always a good thing.

If they incorporate a capturing workflow then at least that's something "more" people might be interested in. That hasn't been done yet on a device and it would make embedding input levels seamless. Don't expect it to create the NAM profile that can be done with TZ these days but batch capturing or some kind of workflow would be nifty.

Actually upon re-thinking about this .... maybe Darkglass want to get the "bass specific unit" out there as that is their core -and then fairly quickly- release the "guitar specific unit (?)

Although having said that, a fully dual-compatible 2-in-1 would be much smarter and cut down on costs and increase economies of scale/production and therefore gross profit margins.

So maybe upon re-re-thinking about it, I'm probably %100 wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I only stated that you can use it for guitar as well not that it's the best value NAM Player on the market.
I'm with you on the price.
 
I think it´s difficult for a product like this to succeed.

If it´s just a NAM loader with effects, Well... it´s VERY expensive.

If it´s offering plugin functionality... eeehhhmm... danger. To the date, I´ve known no unit with that capability that has been REALLY useful. MOD devices were cool, but actually were not too useful live, honestly (and plugins were just Linux ones, which isn´t bad per se, however it´s very limiting). Web based editor was very cool... but it´s far from being a good "on-the-fly" editor for tweaking in a live situation.

Then, that Paint Audio CE-1, which I always said it wasn´t to even launch properly, is more or less disappeared (maybe I´m wrong).

It´s also that mini-PC based one (don´t remember the name), but I don´t know... for me, all those units are more or less the same as using a laptop, with some pros (a couple) and cons (a lot). They are not a dedicated unit by any means.

Quad Cortex, as We all know, is drowning in the task of making it plugin capable, even limiting it to their own plugins.

So I guess I´m not too optimistic (as usual), but I don´t see this Darkglass interesting at all. Maybe bassists have a hard time finding a unit for them, and that could give a chance to this new unit, but 1k... meh.

That said, it´s always good to see movement and new designs and units.

Maybe they feel that the bass multifx unit market is underrepresented (which it is) while the guitar counterpart is quite crowded? So make a bit more niche product for the bass players, see how it does on the market.

Darkglass is after all primarily known as a bass gear brand.
