Dang! PRS S2 Wood Library??

I traded a busted amp for a broken tremonti se, got it fixed up pretty easily then stripped the finish off the back and sides and turned it into a blacktop. I looked really cool and I really wish I'd never sold it.

Found a few pics of this in my old imgur account. Really, really wish I'd never sold this.

It was missing the rear control cover so I made a new one with a vinyl EP.

I love PRS, but I’ve always loved the more plain looking stuff. Solid colors, gold top, S2 Standard stuff, etc. I’d buy a flametop if I liked the guitar otherwise, but I’d rather have a solid color or plain maple top (which they almost never do).
Some of my favorites were the SAS, and the Standard stuff (especially this stunning 408 Standard we used to have, in McCarty TobaccoBurst).

They’re also coming out with more “affordable” Cores and another bolt-on this year.
A Tremonti bolt on , Hardtail would be pretty awesome . or even a cheaper core Tremonti

I mean they are getting pretty close now where the lines are starting to blur between CE, S2 and Core

I’m a massive PRS fanboy, I have 2 S2s, a CE and a Core. My personal take is once you’re to the USA level of PRS the difference between core and “not core” more boils down to an artisan and craftsmanship level than anything else . When I’m on stage I’m certainly not worrying about how deep the carve is, plastic birds, or stressing about a scarf joint. My CE24 is actually my #1 go to these days

SEs are nice and all, but most have never wowed me. I had an SE silver sky for 6 months. It was a cool guitar but not the same as any Maryland level stuff. And… yeah I only had it 6 months lol

I have a dark cherry McCarty from back in the day. The flame is definitely there but being a darker color it’s a little muted.

Their goldtop has me though. I’ve had the McCarty for ages, we’re attached, I’m not selling it. I haven’t yet talked myself into adding a goldtop because I already have more guitars than I need. I have considered refinishing the McCarty as a goldtop though….

Worth noting that S2 figured tops usually look more like this…. Really nice tops on an S2 arent super common..

But yeah, nothing coming out of Maryland uses a veneer :idk
So I said fuck it and grabbed the red boi. The quilt is REALLY nice in my opinion. I think it holds up to Core tops I’ve seen. I also put a hold on the purple one just in case. They gave me a VERY good deal on the red one.

Of the run of 10, these two had the best tops as far as figuring and coloring for sure. I love the look of the satin finishes as well. I had them send me a side-by-side shot so I could make the final call.

Fantastic!!! That top is fucking epic… and you’re even getting USA pups…. Incredible instruments congrats!!!

The right thing to do is get a gold top DGT, and keep your McCarty as the good lord intended.

That was my plan for the longest time, but I finally decided I just don’t need another guitar. When I want a trem I’ve got a Gretsch with a bigsby, a strat, or soon to be a tele with a bigsby too.

I could justify the DGT, but I’m just gonna roll with what I have. I spend 80% of my time on the McCarty as it is, 10% with the Gretsch, and the others go pretty ignored.

I just wish my McCarty was a goldtop…

I have a CE Waring m which is a nice guitar but I am not wow'd by it .

I find the body a bit thin like a small guitar and its just a bit uncomfortable to rest the arm on
I don't love the painted black neck
and I don't love the pickups , I think they are Monotone Alnico/ceramic mix but I find them a bit honky in the mids , depending on the amp

The Waring models look killer but I’ve yet to play one. Actually I’ve never played anything BUT a Core model so hoping the S2 feels solid…

Yeah the Waring looks like a lot of bad mods to a cool guitar.

Love my CE-24 but wish the neck was a little chunkier. Pattern thin is okay but I like a little more to grab on to.

I've been playing my S2 594 for the last couple hours and it's just awesome. The neck is just right, a little chunky like a Les Paul should be but not fat at all.

I was getting annoyed that the neck was too sticky today and hit it with some polish, now it's greased lightning. Again, just like my old Gibson...the neck would get a little gunky but some polish would make it smooth as silk.

Should be great! The forearm bevel is extremely comfy, no sharp edges like a Les Paul. The hardware, but, and frets should all be on par with a Core model. That's a killer looking guitar by the way, crazy top on it!

Yeah I’m pretty fucking stoked. I loved my old SC245 so should stand to reason that I’ll jive with this and yeah, the top is pure secks. I opted for the red as the black is a little deeper than on the purple one.

They ARE holding the purple one for a week or two for me though and I may grab it as well if I like the first one. The purple ones too is also sick. These two are the best tops of the whole run.

How are you liking the 58/15 pickups? Good for heavy stuffs? I prefer medium output humbuckers anyway.

Mine is a few years old so it has the "S" pickups, not sure how different they are compared to USA. The 58/15 S pickups were wound higher than PAF level, and while the bridge sounded great, the neck was too fat and muddy. The new ones have USA 58/15 LT pickups which are like lower wind PAF's, about 7.2k I think. I would bet the neck sound killer although not sure if the bridge would have enough heat. Depends on what you're after I suppose.

I put in a set of Wolfetone Dr Vintage neck and Marshallhead bridge in mine, which is about that 7.2k neck and 8.8k bridge. It's more balanced and open sounding. I also swapped the pots and switch to better quality.

Here's my NGD thread where I talk about swapping out the pickups and electronics
