Can a Plexi do metal?

Sure as shit it can!

TBF, I have the Hot Mod engaged and it's boosted with an SD-1, non-jumped (really, I haven't found a use for jumping the channels yet, there's more than enough low end in the head as-is) but this is pretty much the most amount of dirt I'd want on a rhythm tone.

The more time I spend with a Marshall circuit, the more I believe my ultimate tone is to be found somewhere within them, rather than a Mesa. I do miss the headroom at times, but I think a 100watt Plexi could resolve that.

A bone stock ‘Plexi’ won’t do that, though. That said, it’s a great platform to build on.

I like these tones a lot; not too "modern" but they have punch. I've found some plexis are great for this but typically prefer JCM for my own uses. At any rate, clip sounds legit.

It can do convincing high gain tones and big sustained chords, but it's not the best choice for super articulate metal with tight sounding palm mutes.

Sounds great in the clip for that kind of metal though, yeah.

Killer tone! But once you put a hot mod in, it’s no longer a plexi circuit - if the mods were hard wired in no one would say it’s a plexi, you’d say it’s been modded for higher gain. Throw a boost in front and you’ve got more gain stages than basically any stock Marshall

Exactly. Hot mod plexi != Plexi

Sounds great! It's interesting to see how things come full circle. Many non-Marshall amp builders put their spin on the Marshall tones, when to me, the OG's do everything I need/play and do it the best.
