Yeah, agreed.

I think for a lot of guitarists it will beat out both the Zoom and HX One because of brand reputation (since a lot of guitarists associate Line 6 and especially Zoom with budget products) and the accessibility of looking like a standard Boss pedal, and even moreso the HX One because of price (even if it's only a 50USD difference).

TC Electronic on the other hand has the brand reputation with so many people (pros included) using their tuners, reverbs, etc, and wins on price too, and in that it actually has a reverb option (which the Boss doesn't currently have), so I feel like that's the main competition...BUT if you're looking at these on Sweetwater, for example, the Plethora X1 has 3.5/5 star average rating because of software issues. Roland / Boss is pretty hit or miss with software (though better overall these days), but if the app and Bluetooth connectivity at least works well, I think it'll easily beat the TC stuff there.

If the Boss app doesn't work well, that's a different story since you kinda need it. Like at least the Plethora X1 comes preloaded with a nice range of usable effects. The fact that there is no chorus, delay, or flanger preloaded on the Boss PX-1, and so you need the app to get those basic effects Boss is known for, is truly an odd choice.

Take that 279€, buy the HX One for 249€ instead and treat yourself to a large pizza and a coke.

Sorry Boss, but you can do better than that.. On paper it just isn't worth the asking price imho.

Fwiw, as much as I very likely will never buy this thing for several reasony, I really like the "no need to save" concept. I always operated my MS-50 in that mode as well.

Aside from fx quantity and quality I'd buy it for 1 reason. And only 1:

It's the BOSS form factor. Pedal size and usability peaked in the 70s with the Boss chassis.

I actually don't like their switches much (especially when you have more pedals kinda close next to each other) and by now I usually also vastly prefer the I/Os to be on top.
I like the Boss look, though. Nothing fancy but solid.
Plus, pretty much anything Boss I ever had in my hands was made to last, digital units included.

Oh, i have no problem trusting this unit to last forever; Boss gear is built like a German Panzer.

The problem with the PX-1 is (besides micropayments) long term software support, which Boss has historically sucked at. Ask anyone who still owns a Digitech iStomp about why this might be an issue.

Except when it’s so, so right. It never felt so right as when I boxed that pedal up and shipped it for $12.99 One Rate all across the country, to a kid that didn’t know better. He even messaged me, saying how much he loved it.

“He‘ll be alright, that kid.” I said to myself. “One day, he’ll pull himself out of delay mediocrity, and realize it is his time to box up that FB2, and get a real delay.”

Such is the path from blandness to truly tasty delays.

Love Boss, but can’t muster any interest for this. I’d rather just own the actual pedals, which are already affordable and relatively compact.

At least you can get it new, the VB-2W thingy seems to have an authentic mode (still too expensive IMO). Anyhow, if they really nailed these (and possibly some others), this thing might be worth the asking price in some situations. Personally, even if I certainly won't buy it any day soon, I would defenitely like to give it a test spin one day.
