This is also the exception to the rule. I wish it didn't have infinite encoders. The Boss pedal format is perfect for just wiggling the controls to the right position considering it doesn't have extensive preset capability or anything. Based on a few demos, the response of the encoders is not that great.

I think the endless encoders are great (no parameter jumps). Love the way the MS-50 does it already, it's really nice for my taste. But I totally agree on the encoder ballistics, they seem to be quite bad.

I'm getting mixed signals here. Is it a 1 time paywalled microtransaction or a monthly/annual subscription? Or both?

I don't mind a 1 time paywall if the pricing is reasonable, but there's no way I'm buying into an ongoing subscription that's going to drain my wallet whether I'm using it or not. Or worse, if I've forgotten about it a year from now.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. (I don't think I'd drop the $250 in the first place, but I can see it for the many faithful Boss pedal fans out there.)

But what was the deal with the $199/year option stated earlier? Is that just for people who hate their money?

Watching the Andertons demo, it seems you can hold down the knobs and then they will move in increments of 10. Not ideal but better than nothing.

It still sucks because notchless or at least non-clicking encoders exist, and IMO would've been well suited for this product. Or at least program an acceleration curve for it so you can easily just grab and twist.

In the Andertons demo the CE-2 and SD-1 models sounded pretty darn close. The CE-2 seemed to have a bit better clarity to it, but that might be just a slight difference in settings as analog pots are not exactly consistent. SD-1 was very close to my ears which is impressive.

It's just the pricing and the microtransactions model that really puts me off with this thing.

The cheapo M-wave chocolate with a wireless dongle. I may try it with a Raspberry Pi as USB Midi host with others.

The wording on the video is horrendous and makes it sound like you get PX-1 goodies when you subscribe to the Roland Cloud, but's actually the other way around: you can use the models in the PX-1 from your DAW when you purchase a subscription.

Roland cloud ultimate subscription costs $199 a year

It seems you need roland cloud to use the app but I guess there's a free tier subscription

What I'm not clear on is what the "6 months of roland cloud included" means when there is a free version of roland cloud?

That's the typical GT behaviour then.

I actually happen to like the clicking encoders of the MS-50 quite a bit (just that they wear out rather fast). They also got the acceleration thing done rather well.
In the Anderton video, it seems that you have to perform quite some turns for adjustments, which might be fine for a delay with plenty of parameter steps, but it's completely meaningless for a drive pedal.

Neither a fan of chorus or SD-1s, but I was kinda impressed with the SD-1. Defenitely a much better algorithm than in the GT series. At least in the video it sounds much better.

I think the fundamental problem here is that I still don't know the first thing about Roland Cloud. I've been pretty tuned out on Roland since back when the GR55 was still hot stuff.

So you're saying that all of these effects will be available as native plugins for PX-1 owners who have Roland Cloud accounts? That's pretty cool. Not $250 + $199/year cool... but cool.

Ah, thanks - had an eye on that already. But then, I would really only need two switches, one for tap tempo, the other to cycle through patches (or serve as bypass, in that case I'd use the onboard switch for cycling). Anyhow, I was reading the MIDI implementation chart back then and it seemed as if tap tempo wasn't possible via MIDI. Can you confirm (in case you've tried)?
