Boss PX-1 Plugout FX

Oh... that's bloody typical!

DM-2 - the classic Boss delay that almost everybody would want, and it's a paid upgrade.

This is a feckin' cynical move. I wouldn't buy this on principle now.

Proper disingenuous Kemper scheiße right there.
The only way I'd consider this is if you got the Boss RV-5 Modulate mode, AND the pedals circuitry was much quieter than the RV-5 itself.

I'd actually probably pay the asking price plus the extra for that.

Only refering to the original MS-50 here, no experience with the HX One (former Floor now Stomp owner, though, but still...) or the new MS-50.

- Quality. Some Zoom FX are nice, some are really bad, most notably all things dirt.
- Handling. Really great on the Zoom, but you have to select whether you want to toggle between presets or bypass a single patch. With the Boss and an additional switch (no option on the Zoom unless you cobble together some MIDI-to-USB stuff) you can have both, which I think is excellent. Just that it's limited to 2 FX you can switch between. Which is sad news.

My main point would be quality. At least the original MS-50 is outdated in many areas.
I still have one on my board for single effects and I did add a mini controller once (just to try it out… not there anymore). The stereo effects are yuck but there are other ones not bad at all.

It says you can create a "free login" but also seems to possibly imply that you'll need to continue subscribing to Roland cloud after 6 months to continue managing or adding fx through the app?

Note: Adding and managing effects requires the BOSS Effect Loader iOS/Android mobile application. Existing Roland Cloud customers can log in with their current credentials or create a free login. This pedal includes a 6-month membership of Roland Cloud.

The ability for it to be cool is there if Boss doesn't Boss it up.
They're off to a Boss start with the Midi in jack being midi clock only

Same here. I’ve never liked the Boss digital modeled ODs. I didn’t even like them in the Boss analog multi-fx.

The MIDI thing is such a classic Boss move: make something that could be cool, but give it a weird annoying flaw
Wonderfully put. The Japanese way of engineering. See: Nintendo Switch (2). Have a super cool thingy, but give it weird quirks and stuff or miss out on basic stuff, that any other competitor has. For YEARS. Same was with the Katana. Every competitor has an onboard tuner. Katana? "Get a TU3, can't help you otherwise." Bluetooth? Works. But like in 2007. That totally defies the "everything in a single box" purpose.

This looks fun, especially if you are into mod fx. For example I wouldn't buy a BF2 or TR on its own, but here? Why not. The dirt boxes I like *real* anyway.

But not for 250. 180 and this thing would have been preordered already.

Seems like a better buy would be the tc electronics plethora x1 for $100 less

Well, no way to load more than one patch at a time (unless you go through quite some hoops) would be a dealbreaker for me. That's the appealing thing with the Boss thingy. Just that 2 patches aren't enough.

The price, limited number of fx and whole pay to play function just make this an awkward product imo

In case you're fine with the modules available for free, you wouldn't have to pay. For me, they'd be fine. But then, see above, I would love to be able to cycle through at least 3-4 FX.

At 281 € including VAT...huge miss at that price. I think the microtransactions thing is unacceptable at that price point. I can buy a HX One for less than that and its fx selection is vast.

I was initially excited that this is a cool utility Boss pedal, but the price really should be closer to 200 € incl. VAT.

I could see myself picking this up used if I visit Japan again in a few years.

This is also the exception to the rule. I wish it didn't have infinite encoders. The Boss pedal format is perfect for just wiggling the controls to the right position considering it doesn't have extensive preset capability or anything. Based on a few demos, the response of the encoders is not that great.
