Boss PX-1 Plugout FX

Didn't TC Electronics or somebody Digitech do a product like this about 10 years ago? They were cheaper (though presumably not as good) and I bought 3 or 4 of them on a blowout sale to mix and match. Ultimately a big PITA (and an eventual casualty of the 30-pin to Lightning transition.)

Love the looks. I don't like any Boss modeled ODs at all. No; I'm not using the A-Distortion into the Natural Amp So that removes an entire segment of what this could be used for. Didn't watch the vid so maybe it's cooler than I am thinking it is?

Same here. I’ve never liked the Boss digital modeled ODs. I didn’t even like them in the Boss analog multi-fx.

The MIDI thing is such a classic Boss move: make something that could be cool, but give it a weird annoying flaw

Only refering to the original MS-50 here, no experience with the HX One (former Floor now Stomp owner, though, but still...) or the new MS-50.

- Quality. Some Zoom FX are nice, some are really bad, most notably all things dirt.
- Handling. Really great on the Zoom, but you have to select whether you want to toggle between presets or bypass a single patch. With the Boss and an additional switch (no option on the Zoom unless you cobble together some MIDI-to-USB stuff) you can have both, which I think is excellent. Just that it's limited to 2 FX you can switch between. Which is sad news.

My main point would be quality. At least the original MS-50 is outdated in many areas.

That's not bad at that price. If it relies on an IOS product for management it's a fat no. But I'd entertain it. If Boss actually allowed you to load the full algorithms vs. their stupid "take off the bass control because that will cannibalize our sales" idiot mindset.

Seems like a better buy would be the tc electronics plethora x1 for $100 less, or the infinitely more feature laden and flexible HX one for the same price.... (I know list is 299 but they are perpetually on sale for 250 at one retailer or another)

16 fx and a quarter of them are digital ODs?

I would agree with you if I trusted Boss not to be dumb. I don't.

The price, limited number of fx and whole pay to play function just make this an awkward product imo

I'd probably be less critical if it was $150 instead of $250

I'd get one for the VB-2 and OC-2 alone if they're good enough. It comes with 16 pedals already, no "pay to play" for them.
Three new effects slated for January.
