I agree. I like the GA-FC just fine with mine.I have the GA-FC. I don't see a big advantage in upgrading to the EX. The LEDs changing colors for banks would be useful for me but I think that's about it.

I also like the versatility of the katana gen2 2-12 combo and the gen 3 artist I use together in stereo . I find the tones I get out of it are kind of tones. I enjoy from even clean to breaking up to overdriven for my taste. It’s pretty versatile now some guys may not like the specific tones to the katana, and I can understand that it may not be for everyone, but under my fingers it just sounds or I should say it just feels very tube likeI'm on my second Katana head and don't use the tone studio or any foot switch. The amp takes pedals unbelievably well. I've got like 4 high gain patches and couple with onboard delay & reverb added. That's it. Played through a pair of 412s with appropriate boosts and eqs on the floor...still haven't heard a Katana high gain tone better than mine...
At first, I thought I wanted to know what that means. Then I decided I really don't want to know. One thing I noticed yesterday is how poo-flavored I find the variations to be, on everything except the Pushed setting. But overall, the tones are great.
It's just subjectively, obviously. I like all the original tones, not so much the secondary tones they added in MkII.At first, I thought I wanted to know what that means. Then I decided I really don't want to know.
I still really like the amp, both MkII and Gen3.
To each their own, I enjoy the variations. At least with the brown channel there seems to be less mud. Across the board the variations seem to add more harmonics FWIWIt's just subjectively, obviously. I like all the original tones, not so much the secondary tones they added in MkII.

Are you going to try to use it for shows?
Totally fair. I just don't gel with them, except the Push.To each their own, I enjoy the variations. At least with the brown channel there seems to be less mud. Across the board the variations seem to add more harmonics FWIW
I have both combos (I love the Waza speakers), and I like them both. The Gen3 differences are basically as you describe, and those are helpful for getting some light breakup to classic rock sorts of sounds, but I never felt the MkII was lacking or anything.i should have done more research.
is the gen 3 artist a lot better than the mkII? looks like a bloom button and different resonance type control? contour button in the eq section?
I really don’t think there’s that much in it between the 2 & 3.I have both combos (I love the Waza speakers), and I like them both. Yeah, it's not a huge difference. But now I can stereo link them, so having both is worth it to me.I really don’t think there’s that much in it between the 2 & 3.
I disagree… I have both gen 2 2-12 and artist gen3 1-12 the bloom is killerI really don’t think there’s that much in it between the 2 & 3.

Don’t get me wrong the gen 2 is great.. I just found a gen3 artist 1-12 for a great price so I hook them in stereoFor everything or do you find it's more helpful for cleans, mid gain stuff or higher gain?
I didn't even mess w the variations button last night or really much of anything else since it was our rehearsal time.
I really like the wattage selector. Its nice to be able to get quiet real quick to show band mates ideas or work out a part without being at volume or messing with your settings.
I think the main thing though was just the feel and response are so much better than i was expecting. It sits so naturally in a mix. Some of the other ss amps I've played sound great solo and have no issues getting very loud but then something kinda doesn't mesh right with a band.
