Switches seem to follow the same concept as the GT-1000 Core, which is just ultimately dumb.
I mean, out of all companies, you'd expect Boss to deliver all switch configurations imaginable. But you can't configure these to call up three presets. As a result of that, "Current Number" isn't available as a modifier option, either. Both are what I really wanted from the GT1kCore.
Anyhow, while bus powered operation is nice and while I also like that they're returning to the "one dedicated switch per FX" paradigm of older units (has always been most excellent on the GT-10), I can't see why anyone would buy this over a GX-10.

And well, tbh, I don't see why anyone would buy these kinda small standalone modelers from Boss anyway now that there's Valeton.

They seem to believe in their amp modeling. Apparently they're not observing the market.

it seems like they keep making the same thing, oh but this one has a touch screen, but this next one is smaller, we're headed to boss GX smart watch. wrong direction boss! put some valves in the katana eh

I would have killed for something like this when I started playing.

Sure. But technology moved on and these days you could as well get one of the Valeton offerings. Which IMO are running circles around the Boss stuff in terms of sound quality.
And fwiw, this is coming from someone using GT-1000s in both of my main live setups.

That's the price of 3-4 BOSS compact pedals, if it sounds like the rest of the GX line that's pretty good value.

Yeah, it's actually good value as a replacement for a couple FX pedals. As a holistic modeling platform thou it just falls short, IMHO.

It’s $220 and it will probably survive for 4 generations. Boss must sell enough stuff to not stress the modeling, lol. Kinda excited to see if there is a new big one, too.

So why don't you just switch to Valeton in your live setups ? What's the reason ?

Looks like a pretty fun unit for $229. If you're getting the GT-1000 modeling with a way simpler and stripped down interface, that's a good thing. Would be a solid option for beginners or travel/backup rigs.

It's interesting with Boss raising their prices in the last year the used price of GT-1000's shot up as well. You could find the 1000 Core under $400 a couple years ago but now they are back in the $450-500 range.

The Valeton units don't give me certain bits of flexibility that I want for my main live rigs (basically global blocks - something the GTs offer) and they're not good enough in terms of latency when nesting things inside their loops.

Both of my setups utilize a GT-1000 (full and Core) and a Tonex One (for all amp duties) in one loop, then some analog pedals in the other loop. With both loops engaged and the Tonex One (with a capture loaded) that's 4 full ADDA cycles and my overall latency is still just around 3.5ms (in fact it's even a tad less). The Valeton GP-50 (which I have and love quite a bit) comes with 5ms already - if that translates to their larger units, I'd end up with something around 10ms just with one loop in use.

Because they’re not that great, they’re just cheap. I was watching some stuff of the GX-10/100 and I think the switching is actually more robust the GT1K Core, so hopefully that carried down to the 1. For the price I’d take this over the Valeton anything, but I actually like Boss’ original amps.

It's gotta be said that the Boss FX run circles around the Valeton ones - so in case you're fine with Boss' amp modeling, they're the better choice.
