Boss GT-1000 (and possibly other things Boss...)

I futzed with the GTX touchscreen vs. the MX5. Sounds (that i didn't bother to listen to) aside; the Headrush touchscreen was miles better.

Absolutely. Not that I had any plans to get the GX instead, but I had a brief look at one unit in the store (also without even playing it) and the touchscreen feel was pretty cheapish and not exactly responsive. Tons better to deal with it than with the GT's onboard editing, though - but fortunately I'm pretty much done with that, the 4-5 main patches I came up with will likely serve me as long as I own the unit. All I ever change might be 1-2 FX and that was it.

I can only recommend to check the various ground lift options. Fixed that issue for me and it's now as clean as it possibly gets.
I'm also running everything from one single isolated multiout PSU (the Boss one apparently is pretty bad), maybe that helps as well.
did that, still noise. even when im not playing anything, there still some noise coming throught (I did a test without the tonex connected, and it did this). cant return it, since i bought my gt1000 second hand. oh well, its not that prevelant that it botters me.

What power supplies are you using?

I bought the Tonex One to use with my GT1000 CORE and the gt1000core send return is noisy as a mf....
I never had that problem myself with the GT core, while on the other hand simular complaints like yours on fora.
No amps/compressors/gain efx after the return in your chain?

As said, IMO it's got a lot to do with the PSU used. Ever since I'm running everything from one single HB multiout PSU, things are wonderfully silent.

So, Boss contacted me about my issue, they say its normal background noise. :(
For me, it makes the experience playing with the tonex not good, since i dont get that noise if I plug my guitar straight into the Tonex One

I'll try to do a test with my full GT-1000 later on.

We have noise cause of the world where we're living. To remove the noise you should simply isolate all noise sources physically AND/OR apply digital algos.
Possibly other pedals/fxboxes apply digital algos and have "always on" noise gate. While boss seems to be kind of "there are few noise gates if you don't use them, get the unmodded input bruh".

i also took this video from a guy who has the same issue has me (aroound the 30 second mark, the noise becomes aparent, and in this case, nothing is connected to the send return)

Is there some sort of ground lift on the send/return to prevent ground loops? That’s pretty awful.

There's two dedicated ground lifts for both the XLR and 1/4" outs (with 6 settings for each even, guess some of them integrate the loops).

And no, I didn't forget the test this time. Just that the board is in a rehearsal room and I'll only get it back tonight.

Do you think that has something to do with it?

Not unlikely. But it's really hard to tell because it depends on the way things are connected quite a bit. With my first home setup (which is the board, my interface and the monitor speakers, I got the best results with some active groundlift setting for the XLR out (even if it was muted - so, likely a ground loop) that groundlifting the TRS out (where some hum occured) didn't fix it. Then, the following day on a gig, where I was sending the XLR out the FOH way while feeding my monitor with the TRS out caused an incredible hum, so loud I thought a cable was unplugged and contacting some metal objects. The XLR out however was working fine, but resetting the groundlift for it made the TRS hum dissapear (and the XLR out was still working).
Pretty weird and so far I haven't found any reproduceable things that would cause or eliminate hum - but fortunately, so far I have always been able to find a setting that would do.

And fwiw, the GT doesn't seem to care much about being connected via USB - whereas the HX Stomp defenitely does (at least in some configurations).
