You can use your volume knob on the Tele..... but that can very challenging given also
learning new licks. :idk

Besides, an EXP Pedal comes in handy for so many other things. :beer

I probably have a spare around here I'll send you for Christmas. For real. If you are not
too picky about color and brand. Pretty sure it is a Roland EV-5.

So the most recent thing I need to work on is pedal steel type licks.
Am I being insane for being concerned about wearing divots in my frets ?
Would you practice on a guitar that doesn’t get played often?
What’s your thoughts on this?
How do you approach practicing bends without excessive fret wear ?
We all have a slightly different feel and touch when playing. However in my opinion strings instead of frets take the brunt of the wear and tear when bending. I remember for awhile I was playing the same song with a lot of bends and vibrato every night in the same key although on diffrent guitars. After 3 days of playing on the same guitar, like clockwork, my high E string would break in the same spot, right around the 9th fret. I would switch guitars and after 3 days, that guitar would break the high E string in the same spot. I figured out that I was rubbing and wiggling that string at the same fret a lot. And the high E string was the thinnest of the 3 plain strings that I bent and did vibrato on, so it broke 1st. I just started to change my strings every 3 days per guitar. I been bending and doing vibrato for years on many of my electric guitars and haven't wore the frets down enough on any of them to need a refret. I only ever had to do a refret on a 35 year old acoustic guitar that I don't bend the strings on.

The guitar that has the most fretwear coincidentally is my first guitar, a Squier Strat. I did the most woodshedding on that guitar the first few years of playing and it shows.

I haven’t had any problems with fret wear after those few years. I either don’t log enough hours with the guitar or my fretting technique isn’t as tense as the first few years.

Those SZs needed a refret when they were made.

Such great guitars otherwise. :chef
The SZ520 was my first decent guitar. Every one of them that I tried in stores had minor fret issues. I ended up throwing on some thick strings on mine and tuning to Drop C because the E string would always fret out at the 8th fret despite getting some luthier care. I love the feel of the guitar though.
