Atomic Tonocracy (Inc NAM support)

Here's something interesting from the website:

"Should you encounter any issues with our products, files, installation, or have other inquiries, please reach out to our support team via email at support@tmttechnologies.com, and we will make every effort to address your concerns."

Here's the domain referenced in the email address: TmtTechnologies.com This domain is for sale: $2,195.

WTF?????

Very shady.

"If you want to use their server for training with the free version, you have to publish your capture. That seems fair."

It's an anti-piracy measure that goes so far as to pirate the content of the trial user. What's wrong with it? It's disgraceful, that's what.
Either I'm missing something or you have a really over inflated opinion of the value you potentially add by a couple captures you might make and someone else might like, download and play guitar with them!

Your file isn't the 5th Symphony for crying out loud. It's you, using a demo software for copying the digital foot print of some amp manufacturers hard work, and then getting upset because strangers might make music with it and end up liking the software!
Is your capture fu really all that?!?

Someone makes a capture pack, say 15 captures... surely that's a decent exchange for a full license? Fair is fair no?
You are enhancing their product without a choice.
Otherwise, the only fair thing is to uninstall.

I'm not in any way ever going to be a current or future customer for this product, but it strikes me from reading here and the other place, that it has been released at least 3 - 6 months before it was even ready for a 1.0 Release.

A.A's track record or releasing fixes / updates etc... was/is ... lets be honest ....... horrendous.

Maybe (?) this product will be differnet ? / better ? ..... but, so far, I've got a "not very good" feeling about the product itself -and- how everything will be managed / owned / licensed / securitized etc.....

I shudder at the thought that they might release a hardware version.

Ben

So surely you have uninstalled Twitter, instagram....and, uh, the bookmark for this forum too right?

Well, without me having a recording rig, a load of amps, time, effort and the willingness to try another product they wouldn’t have any captures to use freely until the end of time. The user has 20 credits they can use. Either way, if they want to insist on that as a fair system, at least tell the user that’s what the case is before continuing.

The beginning of the capture process should say “YOU ARE USING THE FREE VERSION - THIS MEANS ANY CAPTURES YOU MAKE ARE SHARED PUBLICLY AND YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MANAGE OR EDIT THEM. PROCEED?”

It’s dumb anyway because the cloud gets flooded with people making their first test capture with goofy information. Not every capture needs to be public, quality over quantity is best.

Absolutely all of this stuff gives a bad impression of how Atomic intend to treat customers or potential customers. It’s not a good look, no other company behaves like this.

You may be right and the captures they get might not be great, but it's a way for them to get their library off the ground. In return you get to use Tonocracy (that is a weird name) for free. Seems like win win and Tom says they're trying to make the details of this arrangement clearer. I can't believe they were trying to hide anything. There would no reason to do so. Anyway, it just doesn't seem like this is cause to come after them with pitchforks :giggle:

Grabbing everyone's captures = Autocracy
Give users the right to choose. "You can do this", is a 100% better than "all your captures are ours, and if you disagree we don't care"

Not sure how having a bunch of random captures made by people not invested enough to buy the software adds much value for anybody - other than making it seem like they have a larger number of useful captures than they actually do.

Agreed, it doesn't seem like a great way to build a high quality library. But it's a long way from that to being some kind of Lord Voldemort who is out to steal your precious captures. At the very least it's a creative alternative to the more common demo limitations of time or noise.

We need to weed out this cloud bullshit from modelers asap before it becoms normalized.

I'm uncomfortable having my stuff in the cloud too, but it's a good way to provide a simple, shareable, and consistent repository that works on both desktop and mobile apps. It's not much different than the transition to music streaming services. People complained about not having their music on their hard drive, but the advantages outweighed the disadvantages, so the cloud prevailed.
