Atomic Tonocracy (Inc NAM support)

Everyone's too busy halloween cosplaying audio software devs

Did you get a free license too? :grin

I got a free demo. Haha. I'm gonna buy the software. I have 3 more gigs, and then have an operation (in real life) and have 5 weeks off til I gig again on NY Eve. . As long as I'm coherent post-operation, I can sit in my recliner and play guitar and I already went thru the demo the past week, and have found loads of sounds that are "ME". Couldn't be easier. The problem is I completely have forgotten how to use LOGIC and incorporate this, so I'm a beginner again. I learned digital recording during the Covid shutdown within a month and did lots, but now it's all new again. I"m a bar-guitarist and use tube amps with pedalboards, where I find most guys on the internet forums now, are internet-guitarists. . Meaning youtube, clips on forums, very small amounts of recording songs ,etc, OR PROS. . Meanwhile, I'm wondering how most people would use Tonocracy? Do people just capture things all day long, or do they make music? Do they need 300 amps or just use 20 or 5? Do they use it as a Stanalone APP and just play guitar with all the great tones with headphones? (That's what I've done so far) .. Do they use this in LOGIC or PROTOOLS? Etc. . I used my Fractal AX8 gigging for a few years but got tired of reprogramming it all the time, and it gets to be too much. That's why I haven't bought any of the newer modelers. .Anyway, , I can not believe the technical discussions on here, as with family, jobs, and actually playing guitar, I don't know how these guys can find the time for this stuff, unless they actually work for some of these companies? Whatever. . I absolutely LOVE the sounds in this thing, and have jammed every night this week on the demo lol

Hey man, lots to respond to here; but good luck on the surgery!

Has anybody tried the captures posted up today ( late yesterday maybe) by user UnExplodedCow?
sound good except the one Marshall named Hot Plexi. It sounds like a gate is on if you don’t dig in pretty good on the pick attack but there isn’t one in the preset I made with it. Says a boost or pedal was used. I’m wondering if that is the reason. Non of the other ones they uploaded do that and they all seem to have the same overall volume so I guess that means the levels they were captured with are consistent?
The whole batch is so consistent and variety of amps makes me wonder if they aren’t using a modeler as the ‘amp’ they are capturing.

glad to see some captures starting to populate the search function. I was getting a little worried. Other than the initial batch at launch there aren’t very many uploads. Or else I’m not doing something right.

I just uploaded one of my captures I've been using for a couple days... came out awesome. Gained out 5150iii 50w boosted with a JHS Bonsai screamer on 808, what a completely original hi gain tone :rofl

I'll get a small vid up tonight comparing tonex/nam/tonocracy/real amp (hint: 3 out of 4 came out amazing, lol)

I had to figure out how the cool kids do a youtube short, here's the 5150iii 50w --> Tonocracy --> NAM --> ToneX comparison

I did the Tonocracy capture first and used the calibration to make sure the hardware here was in a good spot. Didnt touch any of the hardware settings and did the NAM capture... didn't touch anything and did the ToneX capture. ToneX sounds horrible and it's always been my gripe with trying to capture ultra gained out amps through tonex. I purposefully dialed this tone a bit hotter than I would use just to push the boundaries of NAM/Tonocracy and they held up fine.

Ontop of this here are some times the whole process took on each method
Tonocracy - 2min + 2min + 16mins (tone through amp | upload | cloud training)
ToneX - 4m30s + 27m30s (tone through amp | active pc training... 3090 GPU, 64gb ram, 3900x AMD)
NAM - 3m + 1m + 14m (tone through amp | exporting audio | pc training)

Not only is ToneX coming out the worst for me it takes the longest to put a tone through the amp but I also don't have the option to batch train things. With NAM I can do a bunch of captures and then bank them up at night and let my computer rip... and obviously Tonocracy's cloud processing is super slick as well.

My current takeaway is that if you're willing to put a bit of time into things and have a decent machine NAM is still king for archival reasons and easily sharing tones through ToneHunt (or offline). But if you just want the most straight forward way of capturing things and aren't concerned about sharing your captures or using other peoples then I'd reccomend Tonocracy "right now" to someone.

I've uploaded it to Tonocracy/ToneHunt/ToneNet if you want to try it

No Tonocracy or NAM but Tonex doesn't fall apart as yours did.

Was yours DI with IR or baked in cab?

I took @[Nathan] 's comments to be more about the inconsistency of Tonex vs the impossibility of making a good capture. They're not the first or only person who's commented on the seemingly "flying blind" nature of a Tonex captures that can result in inconsistency.

DI and all four are using the same IR combo through NadIR (I have the same instance duplicated on all 4 tracks).

I’ve spent too much time trying to figure out tonex for this stuff, you can see nam and tonocracy are doing the captures fine on the same hardware settings. Possible it’s something on my end but the others work and the tonex software isn’t complaining about anything, just spitting out dud results. I’ve done some captures where it’s come out surprisingly well… but it’s a 40min pot luck wait which is kind of unacceptable when you’re trying to rely on things.

The tonex capture in your video sounds noticeably less good than the qc and kemper. In mine it’s like it can’t capture the gain for some reason but in yours it’s seemed to fuzz out a bit more and not really capture the low end well. To me it sort of ballparked things then kinda smeared it so it 80% resembles the original. So yeah yours definitely came out better but still worse in general.

Amazing amp, love the bad cats!

Anyone have Tonocracy loaded as a plugin for LogicX?
I've reinstalled it and rescanned for all plugs from within Logic but it seems to fail the process "validation result:crashed validation"

Look at my posts on TGP. . I can't get it to work on Logic or Garageband on my system, and I posted a LOT of details: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/tonocracy-oh-yeah.2505778/page-7 Are you on the demo or paid version? I'm on the Demo and have tried everything. If you've figured anything out, PLEASE let me know and thanks.

figured I'd try a REALLY gainy sound to test what's happening with @[Nathan] 's ToneX captures.

On my first Tonocracy capture, it had a waiting time of 48 minutes which was significantly more than I'd seen before. So I waited, and it gradually went down until it got to 16 minutes, and then nothing happened. After a while of no progress, I decided I'd reinstall Tonocracy with the latest version, and make a new version and see what happens. I cancelled 2 of them but Im not sure how to restart them (they still seem to be in the queue?).

Still no progress on any of them, the clock doesn't go down.

Tried 4 times changing different things with no luck, so I'm guessing theres some kind of blockage/limit thats been hit. This is where some additional information or backup options, or either just being able to access the training files would be useful.

Anyone else suddenly having issues making models?

Something something, not relying ONLY on cloud servers, something something....

I'm sure its a blip but this is the exact reason why offline processing is mandatory imo

Yup, this is exactly what I was afraid of. I’m not a fan of the cloud. I make my own “cloud”, whenever possible.
