At what point do you say -- enough is enough..

I get that. Amp gain is cool, and maybe it's why I'm more drawn to the tube gain pedals in general. I've just always been more of a clean base tone/pedal guy since I started. I've grown more into liking eob base tones though, and just taking it further with a pedal. Fuzz is a different beast entirely. It's that thing... and you can only get that thing from a pedal (or a vintage amp that's about to explode lol).

That’s where I have landed as well. I picked up a Friedman Twin Sister about a month ago, and even though it has more than enough gain to handle anything I would do it just LOVES drive pedals. My base tone is essentially AC/DC, which is what the Friedman was made to do.

I need to fire up my Runt 20, it's been a minute!
Yep, the perfect breakup tone to me is like a BF Bassman or tweed Bassman/JTM45 thing. They love pedals too.

I have gotten over my anti-distortion/boost pedal thing. I used to be a proper amp-only purist, but honestly the right boost, overdrive, or distortion, can completely bring a lifeless amp into its own. So I say, really you need one or two flavours of each family group. A TS, a Klon, an SD1, and maybe a RAT .... although I'm still heavily mired in anti-RAT prejudice!
