Anyone running EL34s in their Rectifier?

Loving the multiwatt still. In really all methods of use. Daaaaaaaaaamn :satan

Anyone happen to be running EL34s in theirs? I have my LX with 6L6s and I kinda want some EL34s somewhere. This seems like low hanging fruit solution for that?

I have 445 6l6s in there now. Are there matching el34 tubes with that same value? I see some 446s at Sweetwater

I hear ya! :beer

EOengineer nailed it above. Still not going to Marshall-ize a Rectifier, anymore than 6L6s
will Rectify a Marshall.

That said, still cool to have multiple Power Tube/Amp options. :chef

Yeah no Marshalling here. Just want an el34 power amp on hand :banana

@JiveTurkey check the manual. The older 2 channel models recommend NOT using EL34s with the solid state rectification. Not sure if this is still a thing in the MW series.

You CAN actually use the EL34 solid state rectifier combination but you have to make sure the tubes can handle it.

Mine is a 2023 model. It says on the back that it's best to use tube tracking with el34s. I'll have to dig up a manual.

Edited for 2010 manual says
"We recommend the 6L6 for reliability: In our many tests and continued use of the currently available EL34 type power tubes onthe market today, we regret to say that they do not appear to be as rugged in construction as the available 6L6. This is another reasonwhy your Dual or Triple Rectifier Head was shipped with 6L6 power tubes. If you plan to use the EL34’s we suggest that you keepa full set of tubes and extra fuses with you during all performances in the event of a tube failure occurring when using the currently available EL34’s."

Interesting. I guess I haven’t noticed modern EL34s being that bad? Not sure I’ve ever had one fail.

I personally like both as long as the tube is hot enough.

When running cold Mesa 6L6GC, red or yellow, I will run them in EL34 bias but with spongy and tube rectified to keep them safe.

I LOVE Rectos but at moderate volume I need them hot.

I did exactly that with mine by accident. Ran it that way for a very long time and didn’t realize it. It sounded and felt great though and didn’t blow up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wanted it to marshallize mine, but it really didn’t obviously. I was just a kid reading stuff on the internet I didn’t know what I was doing lol.
