Hey, I love P90s, had a CS LP Special that was a killer guitar.
It’s funny, I always want to take stock Gibson pickups out and put something else in, like Lollars or Bare Knuckles, but with P90s I think Gibsons are still the best. They have the perfect amount of snarl and rock bite and lots of clarity, too.
Dang. Well since it's not worth anything you can send it to me and I'll dispose of it respectfully.I had the Tune-O-Matic added in 1971, thereby destroying its value.
Have a '65 SG Special here, in my family since new (was my brother's, now lives in LA with my son). I had the Tune-O-Matic added in 1971, thereby destroying its value. But sounds good, original everything else.View attachment 35149
The P 90s you have are actually really good ones and not totally representative of P90s in general.I think it’s kinda hard to screw up P90’s? Stock Gibson P90’s are pretty awesome. Currently I’m enjoying this Wildwood spec R4 with underwound AIII P90’s.
For me they have to have 50’s wiring w 500k pots, and be very close to the strings, then you can go chimey fat 3D cleans with vol/tone rolled off, to Godzilla snarl w everything on 10.

Home field advantage?I actually prefer BKs to Lollar but both are excellent.
Yes UK and Tim makes me my stuff.Home field advantage?
Wait, I have assumed you’re in the UK. I could be incorrect.
Being a Lollar fanboi, i do actually prefer BK for humbuckers and especially high output humbucker. Lollar is my favorite for all single coils, especially P90s and Gold Foils.
He always answers emails promptly. He seems like a kind and helpful fellow.Yes UK and Tim makes me my stuff.
its pretty easy to make really gross muddy P90s (see the newer Gretsch P90 guitars that are beautiful looking and gross sounding, among others), or to make them sound way too Fendery (see whatever they put in those Harmony Juno guitars).I think it’s kinda hard to screw up P90’s? It was the guitar my brother learned to play on, the one I learned to play on, and it was the guitar he learned to play on, too.Dang. Well since it's not worth anything you can send it to me and I'll dispose of it respectfully.

Oh hell yeah! P90s are the bomb ! They're powerful enough to get you some thick creamy dirt and get a really nice OD with the right amp and pedal when you crank 'em! But if you're gentle with them they'll sing like a songbird ! They're more ballsy than a Tele pickup but clear and detailed nonetheless.Just curious if anyone is a P90 Purveyor of Par Excellence. Recommendations? Suggestions?
It's just a glaring blindspot for me, but I now have a P90-equipped guitar here, and am
thinking the minimum requirement for me is to at least consider swapping Pickups and
inquiring about options.
My last P90-er was some P-Rails. They were like Meh x 3. Meh Humbucker tones. Meh Single
Coil tones and I am guessing Meh P90 tones.
I know I could Lollar by default but am open to all kinds of suggestions that are not Meh.
