It’s down to the push push pots themselves. The ones available are universally shit quality. These are the best of them but alpha minis 🤮 with a not robust switch. Compared to the excellent cts push pull. I don’t recommend using the push push that is available but I have nothing against the idea.
Thanks, that’s good to know. The one I have is in my most expensive guitar. Sounds like a good thing I dont push it often!

Got a bit more done yesterday. I need to add a clear coat and some tinted discolouration really.
I was wondering about going with just the butterscotch like some very early examples but I think it needs a little more. So far it’s sealer/white blonde/butterscotch. Like 51 ish. Broadcasters don’t even have the white blonde underneath.
Sometime 51/2 they started clear coats but Leo wouldn’t do anything that they could get away without so it’s not uncommon to see no clear, true on custom coloured Strats too, particularly oversprays of failed sunbursts.

The hardest part or relic ready finish is it just looks like your crap at painting, but they don’t come to life until the end.

I had to go a little more opaque than I would normally but this is actually typical and hides the couple of stains in the wood.

This mock up makes the fingerboard look like a different colour to the side of the neck ( it isn’t ).

This original is pretty much opaque on the edges.
My pick guard is actually an original , to that will be three original pieces. More than some vintage pieces I get asked to appraise.🤣

Hey, Andy, any thoughts on the American made Acoustasonic Telecaster??

I am going to be doing some Americana/Country gigs, and rather than rotate from an
Acoustic to a Tele I thought I might check one out. Obviously, no thought that
it would offer great Acoustic and Telecaster tones, but if it is light, plays well,
and sounds decent enough for half-drunk people it's an option I am considering.

Get the Mexican one, it’s off the same production line but with a rosewood fingerboard instead of the ebony. Better really. The only difference is fewer options on the electrics and no rechargeable battery. Sounds as good as and plays exactly the same, which can be excellent. It is basically governed by what type of strings you fit as to what it is going to be good for. The preamp is good sounding even if the acoustic sound is thin. But it’s small. They are actually pretty good and the Mexican ones are the sweet spot.

Super stoked to follow along and see how the Blackguard build ends up!!
:beer
I will add the clear next week and then I need to let is really harden up before I can relic the finish. I also need to start working on the hardware. Then I don’t know what pickups to use . A dilemma between as accurate as possible and my favourite tone , luckily there’s some overlap but not totally .
