The tolerance is tight similar to a hardwood. You can use screws very carefully. You would have the backplate to deal with. It may not be a good idea to cut a large hole out of it .
The backplate is an issue, but I was planning on using Aristides own images as a guide

I'm contemplating installing the Engl Hardtailer in my Aristides H/07R, and I was hoping you could provide some guidance on inserting fasteners into the composite body material.

Does it behave similar to wood with respect to pre-drilling and screw insertion? Do I need to use some kind of insert and adhesive / epoxy?

Thanks
There you go, tempting me to install a hardtailer on my Strandberg!

Does anyone have experience with those?

Andy, my 2025 guitar project will be putting together a guitar similar to Steve Vai "Bones", just with a different sticker theme. Musikraft has the right body so I'm going with them.

As I want a 1 5/8" nut width thus a Floyd R2 nut, should I stick with a 10" radius for the neck?

No go and see if you can get one of the new 3D printed OFR nuts in a flatter radius and then order the neck to match. 12” or compound with perform a lot better.

Ah I wasn't aware of the new 3D printed ones. I see they plan to offer more options when it comes to radius, so I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks!

I’ve only seen a couple but they looked excellent. I don’t know how hard they are but the precision is amazing. No more sitar E issues with dodgy castings.

Hey Andy,
What are your favorite brands of strings and respective gauges for different guitars?
I like NYXL on electrics . I used to be 10s on Fender 11s on anything shorter. These days I have 9s on my rock guitars. If you play according to the tension the heavier gauge strings don’t sound better and for rock possibly not as good. The balance between picking and legato is definitely better on 9s. There are so many great players that have used them. My picking hand likes heavier though. I have Tomastik 11s with a wound G on my jazz box and Savarez Argentine 10s on my Selmer style. Regular acoustic ; 11s or 12s and different guitars like different brands. Got XTs on at the moment and I prefer them to Elixir.

My strats a bit bright compared to my other guitars Andy. It's got a 0.047uf tone cap fitted. Would fitting a 0.1uf affect the tone even with the tone control on 10 or is it only noticeable when turning the tone down?

I've got some caps here and was going to try but thought I'd check before I waste my time.

For intonation at the 3rd and 15th frets - If the 3rd fret is in tune and the 15th is sharp, do we screw the saddle in closer to the bridge?

It tends not to make a difference.

Well that's weird. I went ahead and swopped it and it's definitely not as bright as it was. I know my strat and tele really well and always had to turn the treble on my amp down a bit when switching to the strat. They balanced a lot better tonight.

I have some mustard mullard caps I scavenged when I was harvesting germanium transistors so chucked one in. Placebo or not it definitely sounded great tonight.

Turns out I was full of shit, the cap wasn't rolling off high end while the control was up. Plugged in my les paul this afternoon and it all sounded really dark. Spent ages mucking about and finally diagnosed a faulty cable which is rolling off some high end. Not sure how it's doing that but I changed the patch lead and my les paul sounded like it normally does.

Plugged the strat and tele in and they sound like normal too. The strats still too bright with all the controls up compared to my other guitars. I might look at changing pickups.

My friend Bree's strat copy (she bought it from a pawn shop for 75$) has high action, and she didn't mind it for a while.

However, she had told her dad about it who is a carpenter. He researched some common, not too expensive tools and told her that he would like to try setting it up. He and my friend have read and watched quite some videos, trying to prepare for it.

He read articles like this one:

He has been doing good quality carpentry work for almost a decade. If the guitar doesn't have a major issue, should they attempt it? Where should he start?

If it doesn't work out, he will buy her a birthday gift of 200-250$ strat.

You should not attempt to set up a guitar if you can’t play it to a fairly reasonable standard imo.
The reason is you are not going to be able to diagnose anything with the degree of detail needed.
Most players even can’t do this properly because if something isn’t quite doing what it’s supposed too it has a knock on effect. The other thing is that article is more about selling you things than understanding if you actually need them.
A basic setup actually requires only an engineer 6” rule ,a set it hex keys or whatever to adjust the bridge . A truss rod key and if the nut slots are too high nut files . Don’t go there, take it to a tech it will be cheaper than even this small array.

Neck angle, bridge hight , nut hight and relief all change the action. Then you need to adjust them in order so the next thing you do doesn’t alter the previous. There is also no way to describe what exactly a non effective truss rod will actually do or feel like in practice.
