Am I understanding correctly? (MIDI/Sysex/Boss)

Am I understanding correctly in regards to Boss MEs? Specifically the old GT-1 and new GX-1? Any MIDI controller that outputs Sysex on USB should work with the Boss units? Such as the Chocolate Plus? I know the Pedalbot from the Philippines works with Boss stuff.

so long as your midi controller USB can do Boss specific USB, most Boss gear does not have "class compliant" USB, and requires special drivers.

I see. Do you happen to know if the Chocolate Plus does "Boss specific"? The Pedalbot does, which seems to be the only one I can find that does. Too bad I never got a response from the email I sent to the manufacture of the Pedalbot.
