I have a T with the same saying, different color and graphics though, unfortunately it shrunk and I can’t wear it anymore. I was wearing it when I met my wife, it broke the ice for us.

Got this T when I first came to Japan some 20 years ago, at the art museum in Ueno Park.

Some kind of stylized Japanese calligraphy, on the front and back as shown above, but I lost the paper that came with it. Recently I asked several friends, including Japanese old timers, but they couldn’t read it, either. One said with a chuckle, “Nihongo janai!”

I’d worn it on a trip to the US some time before corona and my Dad, may he rest in peace, first saw the back and tried to wipe it off, thinking a bird crapped on my shirt.

Now I wear it around the house, and it’s one of the oldest Ts I have. I kinda like the look of the writing and the black and white contrast. Maybe the meaning isn’t needed?
