Every new Gibson with this bridge ships like this;

I could guess it better because it always ends up like this;

Also people having tuning issues with Gibson should string like this;

One under two over and your tuning problems go away because now the angle over the nut isn’t the stupid 17 degrees. So you don’t need a new nut or locking tuners to keep it in tune.

They could claim that they don't know what gage of strings someone will put on it so they don't set the bridge up. However, they string it up and should set the bridge for those strings. Anyone with a discerning ear will pick that up if it is hung on a rack in a shop and the shop doesn't set it up.

No attempt made to intonate the guitar however expensive. My pattern would be very close with any non hybrid set.

My gripe is putting out guitars with zero attempt to set them up even in the ballpark.
It’s Gibson. Are you really surprised? I’ve seen $99 guitars with better quality control. The fact that people still fork over thousands of dollars for their products when you can buy a Heritage or any other Gibson clone for equal or less that blows them out of the water just boggles my mind.

I guess people are after that headstock logo.

Not good obvs, but given the abysmal standard their nuts seem to be cut to, I'd be delighted if this was the only issue to deal with.

The nuts are rarely an issue IME. Reduce the angle like in my picture and they work perfectly. 17 degrees is the problem not the way it’s cut.

It’s more entire processes just missing from the production line. They are in line with what they want to produce pretty consistently. It’s not QC it’s policy.

In fairness this guitar plays well sounds good and is built from quality materials so vastly superior to Epiphone and the like.

I couldn’t care less about brands or logos or what my headstock looks like, but there is no guitar that feels and sounds as good to me as my Gibson. I wasn’t a big Gibson or LP fan until it was given to me as a gift, but ever since I got it I’ve hardly played anything else. It’s the most solid, dependable workhorse I’ve had in a long time. It just always delivers what I need and requires very little maintenance.

I’m sure I could go down a rabbit hole and search for some clone I like as much, but why bother when I love what I already have? :idk

How do you actually do that and I'll give it a go on my next string change on my tokai? So far the tuning has been spot on but I'm always down to try new stuff to see if it works for me.

You measure one and a bit tuner spacings and bend the string in a sharp right angle. Push the string through the peg hole to the bend, then you start winding down as usual but as soon as it passes the string coming through the peg from the other side you direct the string above for the second and continue up.

Cheers I'll try it at my next string change.
