Why do you play? Nice article for readers .

Besides guitar, I love Cinema and reading.

But mainly guitar!

I used to be a voracious reader, but I get too distracted by Internet forums these days. My #1 is woodworking, I have a full wood shop in my basement and have been working on an ongoing remodel of my house for the past few years.

This is a Padauk end grain cutting board that I made for my parents.

Guitar and music is more of an ongoing passion than a hobby for me. It's just part of who I am. I love the art of music, and secondly, instruments. I do it because it makes me happy, and it's good therapy when you need to express yourself. And I always feel like I keep learning new things, so that's a big part of what excites me.
My job though is designing and building cabinetry. I just enjoy working with my hands and creating things. It's very satisfying to see something come together that someone else will enjoy and use for years to come.
Past hobbies I enjoy but haven't been dabbling in for a number of years -- golf, gardening, volleyball, tennis. I do need to get back on the golf course soon, hard to believe it's been as long as it has because I do love it.

Man those are absolutely beautiful! So gorgeous! Ever thought of making a guitar? Probably a stupid question but…

Guitar is just one of my hobbies, and not really the primary one. The other two involve sawdust and gunpowder.
I love fishing, guitar and gunpowder myself 🤘

Woodworking was a hobby that turned into a job that turned into a major injury that I’ve yet to overcome mentally lol (50+ stitches on my left hand due to a router ( I can send the pic in a PM of anyone wants but it’s brutal)

There's a very deep running passion for music that I feel very fortunate to have been instilled with, it was certainly there before I started playing guitar and it's carried me through life in every possible way that does not involve money. It seems dim to not honor that fortune by taking advantage of what that passion has brought to my life.

I knew twice what I would do. First time was when I heard a certain album, I wanted to make music. Drums. Second time a guy handed me some kind of rock style Ibanez hooked into some small, likely crate amp, with distortion on. I hit the strings and it was a pure shot of something like heroin. I was 15.

My brain curled and grinned. I was hooked.

Probably born to be a drummer but I couldn’t really do that because of Army time. But formed a band with some Aggie Engineers right afterward. Had some good small town gigs and festivals to play. Loved every minute of it and landed a beautiful girl. We made my son and split up after some really horrible stuff happened to her. But my love for music has been the one thing in my life that has never changed.

I am so very grateful for it. And yes, I chase tones and buy too much gear. But I guess I’m addicted to it if I’m being honest.

I deeply love music and the love for music is what made me want to learn to play.

Music is not a hobby, is a source of deep joy, is the most important non vital activity in my life.

Learning guitar and other instruments, writing music, perform music (and later in my life becoming a sound engineer) has been a way to understand and be part of the magic of music.

I also have hobbies: reading (mostly sci-fi), running and riding my mtb.
