Why do people think aliens can't exist?

I think it's kind of arrogant to assume that we are one of a kind and intelligent life is impossible elsewhere in the universe.

Some people may have perpetuated hoaxes, and few hollywood movies may have made the concept ridiculous. Aliens may have visited us in quite a different way than portrayed in popular media.

They may be spiritual beings not necessiting a physical vehicle at all. Who knows? I haven't encountered such phenomenon, just curious.
Even within our own tiny planet there is life that has no other explanation other that it came from out of space.

Nothing going faster than the speed of light is a problem.

Even if we ever detect signs of advanced life, they would likely be so far away, and far enough in the distant past that they've probably already destroyed themselves. Just like we're in the process of.
begs the question why is there a limit? and why is it unattainable? Sounds like programing to me
Its kind of dumb to make something so infinite yet not be able to go anywhere??
And I agree with Fermi

The most distant space probe, Voyager 1, was about 18 light-hours (130 au,19.4 billion km, 12.1 billion mi) away from the Earth as of October 2014. It will take about 17500 years to reach one light-year at its current speed of about 17 km/s (38000 mph, 61 200 km/h) relative to the Sun.

Our nearest stars Alpha Centauri A & B are roughly 4.35 light years away from us. Proxima Centauri is slightly closer at 4.25 light years.

That's 70,000 years @ 38,000 mph for just the nearest stars to us.

The distances aliens would need to travel to get here are unimaginably large. And out of the estimated 100 to 400 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, they would have to choose ours to investigate.
