Why do people think aliens can't exist?

I think it's kind of arrogant to assume that we are one of a kind and intelligent life is impossible elsewhere in the universe.

Some people may have perpetuated hoaxes, and few hollywood movies may have made the concept ridiculous. Aliens may have visited us in quite a different way than portrayed in popular media.

They may be spiritual beings not necessiting a physical vehicle at all. Who knows? I haven't encountered such phenomenon, just curious.

Drake equation.

What if they already visited 1,259,016 years ago?
Are 'they' going to keep track of ALL the potential planets they visited that MAY randomly evolve an inteligent civilization some time?

This is but one example of the infinite^-1 probability that 'someone' will ever contact our random existence in this random period of our very short and very random inteligent existence in this infinite universe, probably one of many infinite universes.

So I am not saying I am for or against but...

The problem with the Drake equation and other scientific theories, although relevant, is that they don't account for purpose.

If you plant some seeds in the forest aren't you going to want to go back and check on them once in a while? Maybe even care and nurture them a little?

I want to believe. 😎

They def exsist and are probably just too disgusted by us to bother with us. If you've seen some of the videos from our military their tech is so much farther advanced from ours it's not even funny.

Big, huge universe out there. There is no way we are the only ones out there

Reading something like this makes me sad, wishing I would have been good at understanding science and mathematics.

I want to beleive. 😎

The X Files (specially season 1) is one of my dad's favourite TV series.

I avoid watching such videos because they scare me.

It's like we don't have any defence against them.

My personal opinion is people want to believe there is intelligent life similar to us out there -- but without as much baggage. I think a part of them is disenchanted with the human condition and feel helpless to change it. Dreaming of lifeforms elsewhere is an escape of sorts. Not saying it's impossible though.

Wonderful answer and somewhat closer to my heart.
