Who did you see live recently?

Damn I miss Sykes….,

Last big band I saw was Wasp in Nottingham.

Testament is coming to London next month and I cant find anyone to go with me :nails

Destruction and Obituary as support act…

I might see them in Birmingham if I cant go to London.

I just saw Symphony X with Sonata Arctica the other night in Phoenix. I've been a fan of SA for a long time and it was so great to see them live after all these years. I've never seen them tour the US.

Symphony X was awesome, as expected. Personally I'd have loved to hear more from them off their Divine Wings or Twilight on OIympus albums, but that's probably just me because those two albums specifically take me back to a pivotal time in my life.

Just came back from Copenhagen. Saw Megadeth and Disturbed over the weekend. It was their 25th anniversary The Sickness tour.

Megadeth was excellent. They played so well, sounded huge and apart from the highest notes Dave's vocals were on point. Teemu Mäntysaari was a great match for Mustaine's playing. We want to see them again so I hope they come somewhere close by for their final tour.

My spouse was over the moon. Megadeth is her favorite band so I'm really happy we got to see them live.

I've never been a Disturbed fan. I knew only their biggest hits. It was a bit of a letdown after Megadeth. David Draiman sounded good, but I felt like he deserves a much better band. A lot of their songs sounded quite similar to me, and Dan Donegan's playing sounded like a muddy stereotype Dual Rectifier sound that was generally just boring. The band for some reason got off stage for a bit after like every song to do something, then came back for the next one.

Megadeth as an opener for Disturbed was a weird move, but at least tickets were pretty reasonable for a stadium gig. Lots of people in the arena.

Copenhagen as a city is really beautiful, and they have great pastries! But it's also a very expensive city even by Finnish standards. Really liked just walking around and seeing the sights.

Styx was our last show in Tampa.. We saw Sammy at the same venue the week before

Taking the wife to see the Eagles in the Sphere next week..

Her and my musical tastes are a bit different :grin

I saw The Who early in September and it was a great show! I was really surprised as to how good they sounded considering how old they are. Amazing!

Saw Judas Priest and Alice Cooper on Monday night of this week and it was a fantastic show! Literally, I could have gone home after Priest and been happy but then Alice and Co. came out and did an amazing job. Nita was fabulous as well! Really enjoyed both shows.

Now that's a lineup! We're hoping Judas Priest would come to Finland or some nearby country soon, they kicked ass when I saw them last year. Would love to see Alice Cooper too.

Got last minute tickets to see a 90's rock lineup, Everclear with Local H and Sponge. I forgot about the show until day of and it was sold out...resellers were getting $125 a pop. But I watched the page and sure enough about 45 minutes before start time I got a ticket for $50. I've skipped out on too many concerts lately but figured I wouldn't ever see these guys again.

Sponge was really fun but they only played 30 minutes. I really liked their first two albums and honestly could have watched them play for an hour. I did see them back in 94/95 but too young to remember much of the show.

Local H was really good, honestly I was only familiar with their two bigger albums so I only knew a few songs as they seemed to do lots of deeper cuts or newer material. I saw them many times in the late 90's/early 2000's and was impressed how they are still really heavy and high energy. They actually play their songs faster than they used to which is a nice change from most bands that seem to slow down.

Everclear...boy that's tough. For a while in 95/96 they were my favorite band and I loved Sparkle and Fade. I got to see them a couple times around then too. But this was a band that was really slowing down. Art's in his mid 60's now and struggled to sing the songs. But he was talking between songs about life and getting sober and how he's been living with MS for the last nine years. With that in mind, I'll cut a lot of slack as he's not only fighting age but a serious disease.

Even though they weren't as sharp, it was still awesome to hear those songs. That's one of the first albums I learned to play on guitar especially by ear and I loved a lot of the deep cuts. In my first band in middle school we used to cover some of them. One of my best friends from that band who got me into Everclear died a couple years later of cancer when we were in high school, so again a lot of nostalgia and reminders of bittersweet times.

Bottom line, try and go see shows. Even if it's decades past a band's prime, it can still be really enjoyable and rewarding.

I like Everclear. I would have liked to have seen them back in the day. I have the Sponge CD (the popular one, there are probably more but it seemed like the one was enough) and it's great as well in the context of that era. It's weird for me to think that all this era of band is now in official nostalgia mode. Seems like just yesterday

Biohazard, Onyx, Bayway, Sworn Enemy, and Swollen Teeth at the Starland Ballroom last Saturday night.
Got tickets for Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax next year.

What's wild is this isn't new nostalgia...Everclear kind of kicked off the 90's alt rock nostalgia about a decade ago when they started doing 90's themed tours and cruises.

Sponge was cool, like a weird mashup of some 80s and 90s bands. Dark and moody but then leaned into the grunge sound kind of like STP. I think the guys were originally in industrial type bands in the late 80s.

It’s always fascinating to me the 90s alt rock bands history. Everyone thinks of Nirvana like a punk band but a lot of groups came from hair metal, new wave/goth, jangly college rock, funk, etc. I think that’s why the early 90s were way more exciting than late 90s, because by then it was bands who grew up on grunge and kind of sounded the same.

There was a moment, during tonight's gig, some dope's phone went off. A three-note, text ditty.

Without skipping a beat, Lage wove it into his solo.

This got a few chuckles.

Love it!!!

Reminds me of this mono neon snippet of a show where a fire alarm went off and they started jamming around it

Nonpoint last week. They were opening for Lacuna Coil, a band i never cared too much for - which is a weird pairing. They sounded incredible.

Here's Lage in Hamburg a couple of nights ago doing the same setlist as he did in Dublin last night. With improvisational differences, obviously.
