What's the most current/best modeling guitar out there?

As many of us guitarists I want one guitar type of each. Tele, Strat, Les Paul, Reso, etc. Like Pokemon: Gotta catch em all. Reality strikes hard: Neither are Pokemon real, nor can (or will) I buy one of every type.

For some time I'm interested in guitars, that could simulate/emulate different guitar types. Like the old Variax. There surely are some options out there, but I'd like to hear some first hand experiences of you guys.

I'd prefer retail available stuff as you can try it out first hand and send it back without much hassle.

There isn't anything worthwhile that's new. Get a Variax if you dig L6 or bolt a GK pickup on and slide into the 7th circle that is Boss.

It’s easier to make a guitar sound like a Mellotron than to sound like another guitar.

I really regret selling my Variax. I hope they continue with the concept.

I love my jtv59 but I've owned it since the helix was new and never had to worry about a battery for it.

I know L6 has a lot of ideas about what the next Variax could/would be. L6 sent out a questionnaire a few times over the years that asked about wireless possibilities for gen 3. Only question is if they want to invest in the concept again.
