What Mesa amplifier for blues

If I’m looking for a blues amp, Mesa is seldom my first choice. That said, I think my Mesa Blue Angel is a wonderful blues amp—but that’s kind of an odd bird in Mesa land.

That is such a great amp, especially in the 4x10 configuration.

What kind of blues?

If you’re looking for something looser and vintage the Cali Tweed are worth looking at.

If you want Blackface there’s the Fillmore.

If it’s hot Texas blues the Lone Star is good.

The Maverick line is also worth checking out for more low gain roots type sounds

I would guess:

• Fillmore
• Transatlantic
• Mark Series

Could all be great options depending on your tastes and willingness to futz around.

Have you played around much with overdrive pedals into whatever you've got now? That kind of thick Warren Hayes sustain at home volumes honestly is tricky to find in a tube amp.

But also don't find it to be the amp I'd turn to for fully saturated sustaining blues-rock tones.

For me, Creamback would be middle of the road vs the 40 and Blackbird.

Fillmore 25 would be a good option to keep the Fender cleans you like while also giving a saturated option. Infinitely better than any of the Subway series.
