What is the EVH Floyd? Steel or Special?

The regular EVH is the Korean Frt 1000.
They have got significantly better over the years and the latest ones are functionally the same as the German Floyd. You do get some play in the arm mech but this is true of the ORF too. I used to recommend a new set of bolts and a German arm mech for them but it’s not necessary anymore. They have also made the saddles harder and the block is more like the original . The arms on the 1000 used to go loose almost immediately after tightening it because they left out the nylon washer but that is fixed now as well.

Oh, the block is nickel plated brass same as the German floyd. The bridge plate is case hardened bent steel where as the German one is drop forged. The saddles are hardened steel castings and the German ones are hardened CNC milled steel. The German one has much smoother fine tuners and technically better build but functionally the same and Ed preferred the sound of the bent steel baseplate because pretty much all of the trems he used had it .Fender vintage, Floyds; FRT 1~5, Gotoh 1988GT, PV (ping) and EVH FRT1000. The only one that didn't was the OFR and non of his main guitars ever had one while it was No1.

The EVH floyd special is the korean floyd with EVH branding (zinc metal trem & junk steel block), the pricier models have the real deal floyd on them.

The Korean Floyd saddles can be steel (1000 series) or zinc on the Special (also frightfully now called 1000, but something like FRTS1000 or something)

This wasn’t the question.
