You are correct. That Mark V that was 16 is now 1549, and I couldn't hold back! Plus, it's selling with 8 12ax7's and 5 6L6GC's.

I might! Thing is I hear @MirrorProfiles compare the dual rec to the fractal and it sounds very close to my novice ears.

I prefer the tones of pre-Mesa Metallica. I prefer the writing and arrangements of MOP, though.
That woefully scooped Mesa thing took over the world, and did so much Damage Inc. in
the process. Bassists everywhere are still trying to recover their former glory.

I'd love to play a good, well set up Sterling. I'm confident there are good ones out there, but every single one I've ever picked up has been straight garbage. It doesn't help the GC they've mostly been at is next to a high school, so the kids go in and just beat the shit out of everything, but those don't seem to hold up well. I just want to pick one up that has both) a flat/properly set up bridge and strings that aren't DEAD.
I played one of the 'nicer' roasted neck Sterlings last week, the neck felt nice but that was all I can comment on because the setup was so terrible it wasn't worth playing. And I suppose that's the thing, the set up is always so piss poor that at this point I can't tell if they just can't be set up well or they just leave the factory with half the shit finger tight. I've played some great Sterling basses, FWIW.
