What Is It With Current TV Shows' Characters' References To Old Music?

30-somethings making references to bands that would've been popular 20 years before they were born...? Totally believable. Not.

Like a Harvard-grad top lawyer who knows who Captain & Tennille were... Yeah, ok.

I've noticed it a lot, and I gotta believe it's just for the audience. But it's lame.

Shows written by people for who Captain & Tennille were a band of their time?

Arrested Development is one of my all time favorite TV shows and sometimes I don't understand its references to stuff from the 1970s. It has several references to Happy Days and other shows Ron Howard (who acts as the narrator) has been involved in and there's even several actors from those shows like Henry Winkler who played Fonzie. I've had to look some of that stuff up online and there are some real good jokes there if you get the reference.
