What Guitar Are You Playing At This Very Moment...

That’s what guitar I was going to play next.

Had few beers one night and ordered a PJD St John Apprentice from Andertons.
Pretty amazing instrument. Light, resonates great when unplugged, beautiful build quality.
I don’t have much experience with P90s but to me it sound VERY good. Well balanced pickup, not too treble’y….easy to manipulate darker/brighter with eq.

Not much talk about these guitars but I’m really happy with my purchase.

Playing my mid-1970s Gibson Johnny Smith archtop in a pre-gig soundcheck for a regional street jazz festival. I have it strung with TI Jazz Bebop 11s with plain EBG strings and round wound DAE strings. It really hits the sweet spot for this guitar, with carved spruce top and maple body, which tends toward the darker end of the sound spectrum, and feels so much better for my aging hands.

It sounds nice and punchy through the Henriksen Blu Six, (a 120W Class D amp, with 5 band EQ, reverb, an FX loop, with speaker and headphone out jacks). For this outdoor gig, I had it set at 2PM and adjusted volume on the guitar. The sound team miked it through the PA, for mixing. The Blu Six doesn't look like much, but it does the job very well for small gigs like this, and weighs in at 5.5 KG.

For those who might be curious, street jazz festivals are a thing in Japan. Many small cities have them, usually in early autumn. At this one, there are 9 stages throughout the city center, with 2 big band stages and the rest for combos. On the combo stages, each group does a 45 minute set and makes way for the next group, with 7 sets throughout the day. Another region has their's next week.
