What are you listening to right now ?

Last few days it’s been ā€œFocusā€ on Apple Music during work.

Not normally my bag but the exposure to different and/or simpler melodies and grooves is definitely giving me new ideas.

Something I read recently that really struck me as a learning experience for me was the notion that when you have a hobby or passion you can grow it in different ways other than actively doing or performing it. For example, instead of watching a movie you read about movies. Or, instead of playing music, you listen to it.

Sound simple and intuitive I know! But I had never really thought specifically of listening to music as a secondary passive way to improve my playing and/or creativity. Probably everyone knew this as obvious and I’m just dense.

Either way, I love the idea and it feels exciting in an odd way. Now I recognize it when I do it and get more from it I think.

Nice! This reminds me a lot of Faith No More which I love!
That’s an interesting comparison but I can hear it now that I listened to one of their songs - I’ve never been a fan of them but they do have a sound that I can also hear in BTBAM. For me they’re just BTBAM, their early sound was hardcore and they eventually gravitated towards prog metal

I used to see Paul, Tommy and Dan (and other guys who came and went in the lineups over the years, like Will) around quite a bit. I'm still blown away that out of all the bands from our local/state scene here at that time, BTBAM is the one that blew up, since they were the most extreme. They were kind of ahead of the curb and influenced the djent stuff that came later...listening to their first 3 records really takes me back to a time and place in life.
