Wanted, sustain . What's best, delay or sustain pedal.old guy wants to know

Thanks guys,
Looking at a CS1 boss,am I on the right track?

That’s a good one! I seem to remember liking the CS2 a bit better. The attack control on the CS2 is useful and I think it had more volume.

Just stay away from the CS3!

How squishy do you like your compressors?

Just stay away from the CS3!
I have one. :hmm

They get a bad rep but I like it for certain things. It makes a great boost too. It will sustain, but that comes with the price of more noise. But I really prefer it with modest settings just to kill the peaks on a clean tone. It's no API lol, which gets much more play these days.

I use a MOOG MF Delay as an always on pedal. I set it for a slight slapback and back off the mix until the delay is almost nonexsistant. Then I bump up the DRIVE a bit which is a built in boost. It hits my amp nice and the delay thickens up my tone. Very nice singing sustain.

I was thinking I would use it for lead tone only.
Is this thinking wrong?

For me always on works. We are fairly high gain and there are a lot of songs where I will sustain a power chord. Having it ring out without fading or feeding back is key. Like Chocol8 said, whatever works for you. My approach to tone, effects and setup could/might be the polar opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
