Wampler Pedalhead

From the Wampler facebook page:

Just a quick sneak peek at something we've been perfecting for a year or two now, secretly. I've often been asked when we are going to come out with an IR loader or amp modeler of some sort. Some have asked why we don't make more pedalboard friendly amps as well.

I didn't want to just do that.

It's hard to make a better IR loader. It sounds better if the IR is better, all things being equal.

And I didn't want to just come out with another modeler, even though neural modeling is so much easier these days thanks to NAM.

Plus, generally most solid state amps just simply don't respond like a tube amp. I like tube amps. I like the give and take, the push and pull. I like when you push it right on the edge, there's this compression-kind-of-clipping-kind-of-thing that until now was impossible to figure out. Modelers got close, but still - it just felt.... like plastic
.

So we partnered up with SynergyAmps and designed something really great, so good, in fact, that it's patent protected now.

I'll give you more info over the next few days, but as it stands right now, this is probably the best thing we've ever created. There's simply nothing else like this on the market. I, too, get tired of hearing "game changer" in marketing, but this isn't just a game changer - it's a whole new game, on a new field, with new rules, using a new type of ball.

Here's a couple of quick images before you see it everywhere in NAMM footage.

P.S.- I spy with my little eye a ToneKing Royalist preamp pedal.

Wattage would be interesting/crucial.

Synergy employe said it is the equivalent of a 50 watt tube amp (per side) into any load, presumably 4-16 ohms, not sure about 2 ohm. If true, that is significantly more power than a PS170 or other similar sized devices.

Edit: video above says 240 total/120 per side, or 60 tube watt equivalent. Interesting for sure if it holds that in to 16 ohm.

I think it the same as Friedman 50 or 100 watts

This is why the Friedman honestly makes no sense to me if you can get same tech in a small box who wants to pay 3 times the price and get a 3 rack space box ?

The Friedman has a reactive load, more power, and independent controls for each side. It’s targeted more towards the PS-100 (Freyette) market whereas the Wampler is targeted toward the PS170 (SD) market. There is some overlap but definitely different use cases to me.

I’ve had this idea floating around in my head to use my EAE Citadel with a Bard into some sort of power amp/cab/IR as a two channel amp.

It’s looking like a good year to build something like that

I wonder if you can bypass the PA modeling and just use it flat without any conversion.

If not, you could probably train it with a non-inductive resistor and fake it into being flat.

My main question is can you apply the IR's to the balanced outputs (and headphones) while simultaneously having a non-IR signal going to the speaker outs?

I’m going to pretend I didn’t read the write up so I can remain excited about the idea of this stuff. The “not possible until now” and “redefining game changer” shit REALLY makes me want to dismiss it after I’ve been stoked on the idea of it for 24 hours now.

As long as we’re using digital simulations to create analog guitar tones, the game is exactly the same as it has been for over 20 years. Taking a bus to the mall instead of driving your own car does not negate the fact that you traveled in a vehicle to the mall.

The Friedman is a load box as well as a power amp. The Wampler is a pedalboard power amp. Two completely different products with two completely different applications.

I’m going to laugh my ass off if these are using standard OEM SS boards used on everything else, with a model running over it. (Like everything else) I think the secret sauce to this point is the impedance matching thingy?

This could be badass though because of the size. The SD170 was a chunky boy, this seems way more in line with a normal pedal.
