Nioh can get very samey, for sure. But it’s apples and oranges. I’ve never (well, seldom) met a Soulslike I didn’t, um, like. A bullet hell fps has to try a bit harder.

I've only liked Fromsoft Soulslikes so far. Every time I play a non-Fromsoft I just want the real thing after a few levels.

Lies of P (shame about the name) might have actually toppled Demon's and Dark for me. And that was after I'd played for a couple of hours and written it off. I think it was Devin who talked me into circling back and giving it another go.

Time to hit that PS store

I first realized that the L3/R3 inputs weren't my friend maybe 15 years ago, playing various racing games. I'd be burning around the track wondering who TF was honking their horn at me the whole time. Obviously, it was my own damned horn, assigned by default to R3.
Ha ha ha this is me in GT7 constantly flashing my high beams at everyone.

Last great game I played was maybe 10+ years ago and was Witcher III.

Thinking about Crimson Desert, anyone tried? I just dig in huge exploration games…

Finished it last Sunday; it will definitely scratch the itch for free exploration of a gigantic map

It does have some pretty egregious control scheme/response issues though which remains a cause of constant frustration all the way to endgame.

Like some people will say that Witcher III feels clunky but CD is orders of fucking magnitude more clunky to play.

Story is barely there. Lots of pointless stuff that feels tacked on.

Overall I had fun with it though almost solely for the exploration.

I will say it's also a beautiful looking game and runs amazingly well considering

Edit: they apparently put out a new patch for it yesterday that added/changed a bunch of stuff. Haven't been back to check it out personally

I was kidding about the usb-C part
I keep picking up the PS Portal to try to prove it isn't useless, and the previously (as in, maybe 3 days prior) fully charged battery is at 0%. Every. Damned. Time. Despite its having done nothing in the interim. Thus proving that it is in fact useless.

The trick is to power it down completely (hold the power button for a few seconds and select power off) - if you put it in sleep it won’t last, but powered off I’ve had full battery after days/weeks.

Yep power it down completely. I've been using it a lot since getting it and overall; I really like it. Only quibble I have is I have no idea what the touchpad equivalent is when in a game. The one hiccup I did have with Dead Space was feeling like it didn't carryover my saved game spot from the Portal to the console when playing it last night as I felt there was a LOT of backtracking going on.

I figured it was something like that, but I had to get my curmudgeonly digs in. :D On the PS5 the Rest Mode/ Power Down options are called out explicitly onscreen when you're done.

One thing I'll say is the PS Portal battery charges relatively quickly over a USB-C to USB-C connection.
