Just checked it out today, it’s really good. Just trying to decide whether I buy it now or wait for the inevitable bundle including the recto and 5150.

The Helix models stand up pretty well to this one, I think I can wait for the rest of the amp sims to drop.

UA are definitely doing a great job with their amp modelling though.

Just a heads up, at least for the Dream 65 plugin - check your input and output meters on the plugin!

I am running into a UAD Apollo Twin Hi-Z input with the preamp turned all the way down and am clipping the hell out of the plugin. I had to turn the plugin input level down another 10 dB just to get it in the ballpark. It was really harsh and nasty sounding before, now it's a lot smoother.

Also the output level is super quiet, I had to turn it basically all the way up to get back to a reasonable volume. I don't have to do that with other plugins, so I think it seems like a bug to me.

I downloaded the demo of the Dream a few days ago and ran into the same thing with the levels. I thought it was my interface. I’m surprised that it doesn’t work with the Apollo out of the box. I just dropped the level to line level on the plug in, but then you start questioning what the “correct” input level is supposed to be.

I just got done reading a thread on the UAD forum where the "experts" all said it was supposed to be distorted because that's what Fender amps do. I mean yeah when you have them up past 3-4, but not between 1-2.

The only good explanation I heard was that the Apollo interface has minimum gain level of +10 dB, so you need -10 dB to truly get back to no gain. That makes sense and while that's maybe a little low gain for PAF humbuckers, it sounds a lot cleaner at that setting.

But fully agree, if you have a UAD Apollo interface you shouldn't have to mess with the input level on the UAD plugin, especially because it says not to in the manual and in their instruction videos. But you can't argue the input is clipping like that, and not in a musical tube amp way.

What's interesting is that apparently the actual pedal does this too? I dunno, it just seems weird that apparently every other company that modeled a Deluxe Reverb it sounds clean with the volume on 2 but UAD it's clipping.

The pedal has the same issue? Wow, not being able to get a proper clean tone at all on the pedal would suck. I presume you can’t adjust the input level on the pedal right?

@BenIfin You just got one of the Dream pedals right? Are you having issues getting a proper clean tone out of it?

I will say, the reverb is very nice in the plug-in, and I’m not a big spring reverb guy. I went back to the Helix and got a nice Deluxe sound going but was missing that nice verb.

I was running out of my Apollo into my Fender FR12 and loving the UAD Dream. Popped over to HX Stomp and dialed in something similar but it was just kind of flat and blah. Back to the Dream and it’s really nice. It has some kind of better pick response on the notes that has more weight to it, closer to an amp.

How’s the cab part of the Woodrow plugin? I find that part of the virtual Tweed Deluxe experience in other plugins a bit lacking.

I’m going to wait it out for another sale.

Oh yeah - I remember now, I dialed in the Deluxe on Helix and had the same “flat” feeling. then switched over to Lonestar Channel 1 model and was much happier. Helix could probably do a reshoot of the Deluxe - I think that is an original model.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the gainstaging of the Dream. I’ve avoided playing humbuckers through the plugin because I saw all the forum chatter about it.

The UA manuals state that minimum instrument input gain on their interfaces will match the plugin to the hardware.

The reverb is indeed nice. I couldn’t get the Helix spring models to sound like it when I was comparing.

I didn't run into this issue with my Audient EVO 8 at least with my Jazzmaster, but on the Dream plugin or pedal the "pristine clean" range is really narrow and low on the volume knob. I have no idea why they'd do it like that because I agree, no real Fender Blackface amp I've ever played would start to distort until you got to at least 3-4 on the volume even with humbuckers.

Totally agree. Had the same experience. I actually had a bit better time with the "legacy" Helix spring models than the Hot Springs. Put the reverb in front of the amp block rather than after it.
