So, I have a love hate relationship with Les Pauls. I love the look of them, but have never had one that stayed around. Had just decided to throw in the towel on them.

Browsing the local FB Marketplace, and saw this LP. Looked nice, and the guy was interested in a guitar that I had that was okay to trade. We met up today at his house where he had his gear set up in the garage. We played both guitars, and honestly I was surprised at how well it played. We decided to do the trade. Traded my Gretsch G52030T for this Les Paul 50’s Standard.

Pickup has been flipped, and some minor finish wear, but is set up nicely. We’ll see how it goes, lol.

Needed a good cleaning, oiled up the fretboard, lubed the nut, and put new strings on it. Holds tune very well, even with new strings on it. Looks like it’s all orignal under the hood

Does not have the “Standard” truss rod cover on it, and the switch tip is the wrong color. Both of which are easy to correct.

Also has a bit of play wear in the picking area, but nothing bad. Frets are like new, and it cleaned up well.

Decided to leave the neck humbucker flipped to see how it sounds when the new strings and pickups get adjusted (worked on that a bit tonight) and settled in.

Plays very well. Have not had a 50’s (I don’t think) neck on an Epiphone, and I actually think I prefer it to the 60’s slim taper. Pickups do not sound bad at all. Not as muddy as the 60’s model I sold about a year ago. Will keep playing it. Who knows, maybe the 50’s model is what I was missing?
