Wow people have serious issues. So i put an ad over on TOP about looking for a endorphin.se evil pet etc. This person named "boyreporter" messages saying they have one for $500. Person had no messages or feedback / sales under their name at all. I reported it as spam / scam, because that place is filled with that crap.

This person decides to email me this morning with...

"Thanks very much... for getting me banned from tgp — not because I did anything other than answer your want ad for a pedal I was selling, but because you are the biggest fucking pussy on the internet. Which is saying something! Luckily, it won't matter any to me -- I found tgp to be worthless, and with members like you, is it any wonder? — but definitely hope you die in a fire soon! P.S. Thanks for the links to your music; it really blows. But don't feel bad; you're excellent at being a dumb cunt! And I'm sure there are some nice souls who lie and tell you your music isn't awful; it's nature's way, there's always a decent person to balance things out for every little bitch like you.

P.P.S.: Sold the Evil Pet on Reverb to the guy who played keys on one of the greatest albums of all time, so sincere thanks for being a moron! Don't forget to go fuck yourself!"

I replied with...

"Wow you have serious issues. You come on a post with no posts or feedback and you expect someone to take you serious? Like how the hell would anyone know. TGP is ridiculed with spammers and scammers and they even say to properly report if something doesn't look right.

For someone that doesn't seem to care about the place, you're sure taking it hard just to personally email me with your fantasy of me dying in a fire.

So if the role was reversed and I came to you with no messages under my name or feedback, you'd be happy to trust me? I doubt it... "

What a lunatic and a liar because none was sold on reverb lately either as I've been watching for one lol. Also this person has the balls to say my music is shit, but i did some look into his name aka Mike Gordon with his email and it came up as this band - https://boyreporter.net/

Freaking psychos out there lol.

"Microsoft Copilot has filtered this message as spam, either written by a poorly programmed LLM agent or an exceedingly stupid real person. If this email was sent in good faith, please try again. But change the name. I mean, Brock? With access to all knowledge in human history, you expect to be believed that two people existed who were such twats as to name their kid Brock?!? Please."

I replied back with

"Hilarious! Not.. Look I'm not going to sit and argue with you all day over something that anyone else would have done as well including you. If you're ok with handing out money to people on the internet with new accounts, no messages, no feedback or sales then have at it, but I'm not going to be that stupid ;) Have a good day."

You were right to treat that message as spam. The Fractal forum closed down their for sale / wanted section because of the prevalence of scams that it invited.

A few years back I was looking to buy a passive CLR and had a post in the WTB section stating as much. One day I received a DM stating that their friend was looking to sell one and that I should contact him at a gmail address. I followed up and sent an email. The asking price was reasonable and they provided pictures of a nearly mint CLR. I thought about buying it for an hour or two, but it was the traditional 1x12 oriented version rather than the wedge version I was looking for. I informed the seller that I was really looking for the wedge version and that I had decided to pass. They replied a few minutes later saying that they also had one of the wedge versions. The pictures of the wedge version they sent were obviously taken in a completely different location / lighting. That was fishy enough set off my BS meter. I did an image search of the web for the pictures. Both sets of photos were lifted from closed Reverb listings. I went back and looked at the DM that had been sent. It was from a new account with no posts and that account had already been deactivated. At that point I was 100% certain that it was a scam and I'd just dogged the bullet.

It turned into a semi-regular occurrence that I'd get similar DMs from a member with zero post indicating that someone was selling a passive CLR. All of them were reported as spam from that point forward.

Glad you didn't fall for it! I got a few of those DM's as well where someones friend apparently has something and to email them etc.

I still feel pretty stupid realizing that I nearly went though with the transaction. I didn't go as far as to initiate the money transfer, but they would have almost certainly asked me to use PayPal friends and family. I know enough not to do that for a transaction with a stranger, so that would have prevented me from going through with it as well, but I was really close to pulling the trigger.

On the flip side, I've had several great transactions with members of various forums over the years. Scammers suck.

Be thankful. Now you can spend that $$$ on more gear like the rest of us wise and weathered souls.
