Amazing collection!

I always like getting a case with this label.

Holy shit. Can't believe all this stuff is in one place. I had a good rummage down the back of the sofa and cleared out my son's piggybank but I'm still a bit short for any of the things I want.

$11.56 million for Garcia's Tiger. $3.0 million for the not very original Fool SG. These prices are surprisingly high!!!
To me, the whole thing is scary.

Every time one of these auctions comes up, the prices of the guitars with a special pedigree increase exponentially. The black Strat went from what, 3.75 MIL to 14.5 in just a few years. I see that as however many bidders there were, who didn't have access to that kind of wealth back when Irsay won the bid, but have more, now. Which is an INSANELY fast "movement" of wealth to the richest of the rich.

I think the price jump is more what Eagle alluded to. These collector pieces have moved into the world of fine art and are now a way for the wealthy to park money.

Its not like Irsay was the only one who had millions to spend on this stuff a few years ago. There were plenty of people with big money, but they didn't see guitars the same way. Now apparently they do.

Paul Allen definitely had the funds to buy all of this stuff. It's surprising to me that he didn't have more interest. I used to gig with a local keyboardist from Texas, who was LeAnn Rimes music directory early in her career. He produced an album a few years back and he hired a Seattle guitarist who was in Paul Allen's practice band to lay down the guitar parts. Brent told me that the guitarist (I don't remember his name) was paid $80K a year to be on call to Paul Allen, so that when Paul Allen wanted to jam, he had to be at Paul Allen's house on Mercer Island in short order (not sure how long he had). He might get called on Christmas Eve or have to take a cruise on Paul Allen's 400 foot yacht (which had a built in performance space). Could be hard on the family, but man that's a sweet gig. And it's one of many indicators that Allen had the bucks to buy all of this stuff without breaking a sweat.

I would love to have the lyric sheet for Hey Jude. Or "The Fool" SG. Or Jerry Garcia's The Tiger. I know that the auction is over, but for future reference, I wonder if they take checks?
