Tonex One noise with 9v power

I have a problem with my Tonex One. It does a weird high pitch noise when connected to my fender engine room lvl8. It goes away when its powered by usb-c or if change it from 9v to 12v (I did this for testing only).

yes im using headphones. but im using my tonex one with the boss gt-1000 core (SEND/RETURN). The headphones are pluged into the gt1000 core.

Sounds like a ground issue to me. You shouldn't run it at 12v, but that test does imply power supply isolation could fix it.

kinda defeats the point of having singular PSU for many pedals, no? but i get it. I might try those joyo 9v isolators

Ive had issues like you describe cause of asking to much power from a power supply…could that be the case?

It's a way to debug. I have also heard others have noise issues with Tonex and Boss GT's. You can try it using the same power supply but with the headphones direct into the Tonex (no connection to the Boss at all but them both on the same power supply).

Something is not happy working together, so you need to narrow down what it is first.

Have you tried using a different port on the LVL8? How about a different (and maybe shorter) power cable? Are you daisy chaining any other devices from the same port?

Is it connected to your computer at the same time?

If it sounds like a high pitched whine, it's most likely an issue with isolation in the power supply.

I have a relatively faint high pitched whine if powered by 9v as well. Doesn't matter the source of power; it remains the same with anything I used. I think it's how tonex ones are. 3 so far have all had the same issue.

I think people often don't notice it because of active gating and/or the tone not being high gain enough for the whine to be perceptible. Turning the guitar volume pot down, with gate off, with a high gain capture reveals it.

The moment I power via USB, it goes away.

You need...
1) An isolated 9V power supply.

2) The Joyo 9V isolation transformer and voltage regulator.

3) Use a USB power supply for the ToneX.

Either of the above will work.
