The Pickups Thread

the thing I like about EMGs (I would say actives in general but can't say for sure about Fishman) is just that they do have a certain idk "brilliance"/resonance to them...like I get that makes them less dynamic but it's also kinda nice to almost have a "perfect" tone like automatically

EDIT: people also talk about the feel/"Immediacy" of actives, but I honestly don't perceive a difference when directly comparing passives to actives. Not sure if there's certain kinds of music like extreme metal or something where it would be more apparent.
Chiming clean is where you hear it most obviously.

Mr 80s demos it well here.

makes sense, I definitely thought the clean sounded good from what I've heard...are there any clips out there of EMGS/actives doing edge of breakup?
Just find David Gilmour with the CAR Strat or Mark Knophler with the Pensa and you are hearing Emgs . Both great.

another EMG question but I can't search because I want to search "TW" but it's too short- has anyone tried the TW series, and if so how does it compare to single coils or traditional humbucker splits with passives?

A pre amp is always going to sound fundamentally different from passive. If you listen to the video above switching in the mid boost even at the lowest settings it’s obvious. This is the same thing with EMG.
