Btw...it would be cool to have Kazrog's Ampcraft 1992 in this comparison if you have it? (£15 on sale right now I believe).

I considered Shane a friend from the Sneap forum days but I got booted off his beta team and unfriended on facebook for bringing up that Ampcraft 1992 had a fixed master volume model (rather than a model that behaves accurately across the full range). Apparently it's fixed at 4 because thats where it sounds best and anything else isn't as good. Except I dont like it that high so.....
Not even a message from him when he did that. So can't really take it seriously after that. Apparently they were going to add a full poweramp model later but not sure if it ever happened.

To answer that question, I like the Invective better (and think it sounds a little more accurate for palm mutes/gain character in the comparison here), but reserve the right to change that whenever either one or both become Agoura models.

probably my bad on the settings. On the real 5150 red channel I dont really like going above 5 on the gain. Often I'd have it around 1.

@MirrorProfiles Thank you for adding the Helix Invective model. I think it sounds really good. With slightly less gain, it could probably be the model that sounds closest to the real 5150. However, it does apparently need some more extreme settings.
Back in the day, Kazrog's Thermionik was, alongside TSE's X50 (which I liked even more), the hot stuff when it came to amp emulations and far superior to anything better-known companies were offering at the time. It's a real shame that neither of them were developed further. Ampcraft 1992, on the other hand, did not appeal to me at all.

TSE x50 was the first amp plugin I paid for back in the day lol - it was LePou before that.

You're welcome. Yeah I do like the model. The main reason I don't like it is that Post volume control adds in a huge variable in this kinds of comparisons and it gets way more fiddly to dial in. There's already enough of a battle with the MV, and it just kind of multiplies it. I think for dialling in tones in a normal context I'd go for it over the stock 5150, but I also dont mind the original model. Gets the job done.
Yeah the GUI drove me nuts to use it. Loads of bad fonts, small text, tiny areas to click. Just needed outsourcing to a professional. It's a competitive world and the bar is pretty high these days. Whenever there are bullshit hoops to jump through that make things annoying to use, I'll just overlook them
Yeah same here, although tbh, I always struggled to get a tone I liked from it. Probably user error thinking back to it. I also remember using Podfarm and Revalver a bit back then, which I thought was pretty good. Tried Revalver again more recently and it wasn't pretty.

Yes, I also used ReValver quite often. The 6505+ model was... well... quite usable for its time. And I really enjoyed using the Hartke bass amp model. But my goodness, that software has aged badly.
