Blind tests seldom prove that you can make low end gear sound as good as high end, but rather that you can make high end gear sound as bad as low end, which is not really a surprise if the gear got more than a single control for the masses to mess with.

Most of the time, the people who are most obnoxious about this stuff are the ones who hate modeling to begin with, and will grasp at anything within reach to validate their opinions. Doesn’t sound exactly like a tube amp, doesn’t respond exactly like a tube amp, doesn’t feel exactly like a tube amp, latency, disposable crap that you can’t repair, etc.

Yes. But there are two sides to this story. You have the old heads and you certainly have their (our?) bias. But don't think for a second there isn't an equivalent shrieking lunatic gear shaming you if god forbid you don't want to gig a Temu Tone-X knockoff into a $17 dollar 15 watt powered speaker. It is absolutely a thing.

Let's see. Here we have product A. It is admittedly a low quality product. It sounds like shit, to be honest. But I've used a lot of time tweaking it to get the best possible result. And here we have product B. It is a high quality product with a lot of tweaking possibilities. Instead of trying to get the best result using product B, I've tried to make it sound like product A. I should have screenshot it when I saw it, but one of the last days I was on TGP there was a guy claiming he could hear what wood was used on a guitar from listening to an album. Not a blind test but a fucking album. He also stated he could hear brands and there was something else equally as brilliant but I can’t remember now. While he didn’t explicitly state he had golden ears, I’d reckon if he were asked, his description of his ears would be nothing but a top quality metal or mineral.

I know that a fully figured maple top isn’t going to have a tonal difference to a plain maple top with a veneer, but if I’m crossing a threshold of a certain amount of dough, I want the whole fucking piece of nice wood dammit lol. One of the only things I’m bothered about with my Strandberg. Great guitar, but every other builder in the price range is giving you the full top. And they’re USA manufacturing to boot not indo
