The NDSP Nano Cortex…

Except those of us who have Kemper Players, which slays this thing STILL in like every way imaginable. But yeah, good update.....
With all do respect, The kemper player when first rumored was supposed to the the most amazing unit to come out...only to dissapoint everyone when it was clear it could not capture nothing, not even a cold!. And still Kemper has no capturing software!

Nano captures great profiles in minutes! Its one of the fastest and best souding mobiles capturing units on the market at its price point.

People asked for years for a Kemper that only played profiles, with no capturing. “Everyone” was not disappointed when Kemper gave people what they asked for. Regardless with this update, the NC is looking pretty good compared to the Player.

So; i'm known to happily bash NDSP when they deserve it.

But being entirely fair, this update turn makes the Nano Cortex a serious competitor to the Kemper Player. Without tiered upgrade antics, and costing 30% less to boot.

Can you upload captures/IRs to the Nano Cortex without going through the cloud - in the form of backups, at least? Because that's the only real advantage i see for the Player at this point in time.

That's my big gripe. It has to be connected to your computer or using your app to access full functionality imo

Not me….

Nano obviously captures, and the player doesn’t itself…but it’s got a ton of other features the NC doesn’t have. Anyone in doubt…compare the manuals ;)

So..between the 2, none is perfect, but both are valid options for people sound of mind.
Kemper could, still beat Neural, to a capturing software! But one thing is for sure, none of them can compete with the quality a NAM profiles.

Bummer that the Nano has no Aux-In or Bluetooth audio. Kills it as a practice/couch rig.

Maybe they can update the firmware for Bluetooth audio in the future.

I don't know this for sure, but I'd be willing to bet the USB-C port will push audio from any Class-compliant device (iPhone, etc. etc. etc.) to Outputs 1/2.
I’m pretty sure I’ve tried this, but I’ll give it a whirl when I get home. I vaguely recall an iphone not having enough juice to power the NC, but an iPad could both power it and allow you to stream audio to the unit since it’s class compliant. That would work well for a couch rig—no power cables to worry about. This definitely works with the ToneX devices, for what it’s worth.

Thanks. I'd assume this would work. And for the phone you could probably use the adapter cable with an extra USB socket for a power bank.

The other part is can the phone connect to a TV (via bluetooth) and then share that audio via USB. Otherwise it's not a viable couch rig!

Not a serious contender at all compared to Kemper Player. The 2.0.0 update is a start in the right direction though. They need to add SO much to even come close to the KPP, especially in terms of footswitch flexibility, etc...

It’s a contender in that it’s more accurate, and actually captures. Again, it’s a different device. The KPP is neat, but very overpriced and gimped, compared to a used Toaster or Stage.

Who cares about captures? They're already done by the thousands. I'm talking about gig-worthy usability and features here.

Who cares about captures? A lot of people do. I’ve spent plenty of time sifting through garbage on a Kemper, and never been happy with tones in that thing. Same for ToneX, except for when I made my own captures.
As for gig-worthy? Neither. I’d want something with a screen, like the FM3T, that crushes the Kemper for amp tones and effects, and is easily tweaked on-device.

So do I have this right now (?)

-> Blocks 1 and 2 are PRE
-> Blocks 5 and 6 and 7 are POST
-> Block 3 is AMP Block (?)
-> Block 4 is IR Block (?)
-> if (?) I use Block 3 for a combined Amp and Cab Capture, does Block 4 then become an additional POST Block (?)

@BenIfin No; the Cab / IR block is always the IR block.

One of the reasons for that is that you can interact with it from the hardware front panel footswitch.

I do care for captures, thank you. And a couple mates too. From bar musicians to arena stages ones. If you´re suggesting We´re wrong... well, then I´ll need to suppose you don´t know what you´re talking about.

So no, the player doesn´t neccesarily slays the NC. I MUCH PREFER the NC over the player, and I don´t go around saying it´s far better. It´s just a matter of needs. You can write a list of pros and cons for each unit and choose what suits your needs. And by the way, I suspect you wont find many users basing their rigs in 2 Kpp players... so please don´t think your use case is the mayority one. Actually, I could bet you´re the only one.

What's wrong with the Nano Cortex footswitches exactly?

To me it's a simple device with 4 presets. It's not supposed to do more. I'm delighted with the footswitches actually.

If I wanted a more complex and flexible setup, then I'd pull out my Axe-Fx III + FC-12 battleship. But I don't use the NC for that. 🤷‍♂️

Hey jellodog.

My apologies but Im a bit slow on some things :)

So this Pic is of Block 3 and Block 4

=> what can go in Block 3 and what can go into Block 4 ?
=> if you can (?) place a Full Amp and Cab Capture in just one of these 2 blocks (?), does that free up the other block for another EFX ?

Many thanks,
Ben

Block 3: Any capture (amp or drive etc.)
Block 4: IRs

You can’t free up more blocks for FX. If you’re looking for an FX-only device, then the VP4 might be a more suitable choice.
