The NDSP Nano Cortex…

Nano Cortex currently has a pretty bad bug. You can capture on it, but you can’t back it up to the cloud or share it.

It just sits there and clocks on this screen for any captures made on the device. If you download a capture, no problem, but if you make one, it has a bug right now stopping you from editing or uploading your capture.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature. They don’t want anyone else stealing your sweet, sweet tones!!

Did you try it on your iPad?

I picked one up, did some awesome captures with it, its a wonderful little device, but this error is an issue. Checking their support forum its been going on for a while even with the newest firmware. Hopefully they solve it soon.
Was gonna make a “SOON” NDSP joke but probably shouldn’t pile on you. Hopefully they fix this quickly

That doesn't happen on my Nano Cortex. So I'm wondering if your firmware on the hardware itself is corrupted
🤔

I don't know if it's possible to reinstall the latest firmware, but I wonder if it's worth attempting a factory reset? You'll lose all your data of course, but if you think the NC is unusable in its current state, then it might be worth doing anyway.

Another possibility is that the Cortex Cloud app, or its data on your phone is corrupted in some way, so you could try deleting and reinstalling that first (before wiping the hardware).

I appreciate the response, and I might try it. Have you tried making a new capture in the last month on the new firmware, by chance?

I'm not the only one having this happen, as I've seen posts on FB and the Neural support forum like this:

And it seems Neural is aware of the issue:

So maybe, but I just bought it the other day, it immediately updated the firmware when I ran Cortex cloud, and everything else is running fine. I might try to factory reset, but I doubt it will rollback firmware.

Here's the link to the discussion on the Neural forum:

Sadly, they don´t seem to care about offline functionality of the app. Without it, the NC is unable to edit parameters. I had a gig in a castle in a mountain, for 600 people audience, and I was totally unable to edit parameters during the sound check because there was no 4G/5G signal at all. Since the app requires internet to work, it was just imposible to pair the NC with the app. NDSP doesn´t say a word about it... but it makes the unit very risky for proffesional use.

Doesn't the app work over BT? Why does it require an internet connection? I guess it also doesn't support connecting USB-C to your phone, right?

Not surprised at all because a lot of companies these days seem to just expect an online connection to be available at all times.

Nope.

Internet required.

Yeah, I know it´s absurd... even ridiculous. You cannot edit parameters without internet. No USB-C editor, no offline editor. You need the Cortex Cloud app with connection... otherwise, the app doesn´t even start.

The situation is even more critical if you live in Spain. Aparently, football tv stupid businesmen fat cats have blocked a lot of servers because of piracy. They rule this country and can freely cause a blackout in internet services as they wish. And yeah, the server used by NDSP is one of those that are blocked when there´s any football tv boradcast... so, in weekends, you can´t pair the NC to edit anything (unless you use an VPN).

NDSP knows this (a lot of users are complaining), but they say nothing. It seems they don´t want to hear a word about it. For any obscure reason, they want you connected.

I´m in love with the unit. It sounds terrific, it´s the easiest and fastest capturing device out there, it´s free from input gain calibrating issues thanks to built-in capturing, it has all the effects I need for my use cases and the build quality and size are superb. But this "online required" nonsense is the most stupid strategy decissión I´ve known of.

Looking at what Google Play Store says about the app permissions, the only reasons for the internet connection seem to be access to the cloud data and analytics collection. Neither of these seem in any way required for offline usage.

Now analytics don't have to be malicious, so I fully expect incompetence is the main reason.

Man that's wild! How is that not illegal? Or maybe it is and it's just "the way it is" everyday corruption.

I fully expect they just built it so that internet login is always done and there's no "Did the user log in for the past X days? If yes, all good" path to bypass it for offline usage. It doesn't seem like an issue that would be super difficult to solve either.

I feel like the end user really has to vet their hardware and software solutions harder than they should these days due to issues like this.

Holy shit. I was going to make a “there is always signal in the bedroom” + Michael Scott joke, but it’s on the freaking server side?! Mon-Fri only for edits during football season?

:puppet

If the NC had any kind of editing support without phones, let alone an internet connection, i'd already own two.

But yeah, why the fuck does it need internet tether for editing parameters is beyond me.

Of course, there´s no technical reason for this nonsense.

Absolutely. This has to be illegal. I can´t think of a reason why it wouldn´t.

I´m starting to think the same. Even when I love the unit like I do.
