The MayTrem System

Anyone here tried this trem and any thoughts ?

Cheers
Fundamentally flawed design. Rollers when you don’t need them. It will stay in tune but sound bad compared to a fulcrum . There are so many vastly better options.
This really is a pos. If you want cam feel fit a Vega, they will feel similar on the bar but sound massively better.

I don't know about that. What other trem keeps a chord in tune without rollers?
The one that preserves pitch difference would need to be a cam and rollers but how much guitar performance are you willing to sacrifice for that incredibly marginal feature? Even vibrato with this unit will kill sustain .

The cam and rollers design is seriously detrimental to the quality of the note produced and if the available string length changes during use the loss of string energy to the process is horrendous.

At $800 in the US, I am not interested at all, but I can definitely see a lot of players being willing to give up a little sustain/tone for that ability. If it was $100 it would sell pretty well I bet.

It’s not a small amount .

So is that the case for the Kahler cam bridge as well? It essentially reels the string in and out when using the bar. One advantage is that you can go to drop D without making the rest of the strings go out of tune. Steinberger TransTrem has rollers too…

Yes and you can’t drop the tension on one string without the cam moving. If moves less but it still moves.
The TT function can not be archived unless you can independently adjust the distance from the fulcrum to the string witness point without altering either the action or the intonation. So cam and rollers is the only option.
Think of how the vibration is affected by the reeling process. It needs to disperse in to the extra length when you press down and it chokes when you pull up. Now think about vibrato, it kills the sustain stone dead almost immediately compared to a fulcrum design. It also has a high part count between the witness point and the wood,
Fulcrum designs also have concentrated points of contact with the guitar which helps transfer the string energy to the body.

I’m not sure I’m following you when you say “think about vibrato”…are you referring to finger vibrato or a different bridge like a Bigsby?

Got it. Which trems do you prefer and recommend?
Ones that work.
Floyd’s;
Original preferably German.
1996 ( best one )
Lockmiester.
Edge
Edge low pro.
Steeler.

None locking ;
510 two post with locking saddles
Wilkinson built by gotoh
The newer VS1300 is the best of these .
Vega is good if you like the feel.

There are a few others that work fine but not better than these. I’m looking at materials and performance but also the design. There are plenty of ill advised designs that get beautifully built but still are flawed.

I’m a trem fanatic, so I appreciate you letting me pick your brain 😊 I’m a little surprised that you ranked the GE1996T higher than the Kahler Steeler, which I thought was the ultimate Floyd-style in terms of build quality. I have a Vega Trem and it is very nice, but I’ve been lusting over the new VS1300. Interestingly even though Gotoh makes the Wilkinson, they came out with their own LS locking saddles…what is your opinion of those vs the Wilkinson locking saddles? Are you a fan of NFT Floyd’s at all? The version in my USA Guthrie Govan sig (no idea who makes it) works well (even though I’m not a fan of the Tremol-No that is installed. Lastly, how do you feel about offset trems like the Mastery, Descendant or Halon?
