Hey everyone!

I’ve finished a new custom guitar that I’d like to share here. It’s a completely hand carved and painted semi-hollow electric guitar, with artwork inspired by Alphonse Mucha’s iconic Art Nouveau style.

Every element—from the detailed carved lines to the vibrant painting—was created entirely by hand. The idea was to capture the flowing, organic elegance and richness of the flowers that make Mucha’s artwork so timeless.

I’ll be documenting the entire build process here, step by step—from the initial sketch and wood selection, through carving, painting, finishing, and final assembly. I hope this will be fun for anyone interested in musical instrument building, custom building, or just artistic guitars in general.

Good lord that's wild! Are you building from scratch or using another guitar like a PRS as a platform?

I believe he stated in his other thread that he builds everything from scratch (e.g. no doner guitar).

I think the blue "finish" on the guitar picture a couple posts back is actually some kind of temporary ink used to transfer his design to the guitar surface prior to carving.

Do you have a preferred wood species, that is the best, when it comes to the actual carving?

Reason I ask is, I'm a carpenter, but I rarely work with chisels. However, on a recent project I had to mortise a Mahogany storm door for a box lockset, which without the special-purpose tool that does this type of thing (which I did not have), it's a bit of a PITA! But fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised how easy Mahogany was to work with.

If I had one, I wouldn't care if the wood was chosen for its work-ability, as opposed to its tone, because it would be a wall-hanging piece of art for me.

For carving materials, in my opinion the best wood is mahogany,

Outstanding work, man!!! Feel free to share everything and anything related to the process!!

Wood carving videos are something I'll put on in the background when doing stuff around the house, I'd be willing to bet if you stuck an overhead camera in your work area and just posted the footage after, making playlists of different guitars, you'd probably rack up some views pretty quickly!!
