Equivalent thread to dive into any and every emulation for the Friedman BE100. If anyone wants to contribute a modeller or emulation of choice, message me for DI's.

I've included a 2016 (4 toggle switches) BE 100 on HBE mode here, C45 engaged, highest gain structure and the more modern voicing switch.

Emulations include Fractal, Helix, NDSP Plini and STL Amphub. Didn't bother with Plugin Alliance's official one as it's just plain bad. It's almost like the opposite to a Dual Rectifier with regards to modelling - most seem to get it pretty spot on without much deviation. I'd be pretty happy with any I think, and that goes for all settings and modes etc.

I found the STL model felt most like dialling in the real thing. Helix felt familiar too, if I'd have used Metallurgy maybe it would have helped the feel/experience side of it.

Other amps I can do this for are Bogner Uberschall, Dual Rectifier MW (I'll do that in the Recto thread), 2203 and 2204. I'm not sure if my other amps have enough emulation equivalents to be worthwhile. Happy to do other channels and modes among the amps done so far though.

Oh wow! Thanks for doing this! My quick take after a couple of listens to each clip is that the Fractal sounds the least like the original amp to me. There's that low-mid bloatiness that takes away the upper-mid attack of the real amp. (I'm soooo tired of repeating this, and I'm sure you are tired of reading this from me, too)

The amp clip has this string-y attack that the pick makes, which makes it sound more aggressive (EDIT: the lack of this aggression makes the amp virtually unusable for drop tuned chugga chugga for me; it sounds okay but feels like a cardboard sponge). That aggression is missing in the Fractal clip, and is exactly what I keep bringing up that pre-Cygnus models had. Each of the other clips has this attack in varying degrees. The Helix has too much of that, so that's not very accurate to me, but in the opposite direction of the Fractal. The STL comes closest, but has about 5% less of that string-y pick attack that the original amp has. But I'd say that these are all great emulations; none of them feel like they are done poorly.

I have to say that often with the fractal models, I have to always push this area a bit harder than the real amps and emulations. It’s common enough in the same direction that I don’t think it’s just pot tolerances (otherwise sometimes it would go the other way).

The Fractal model has more guesswork as it has the NFB and depth controls from the DLX model. The gain character was a hair more “dry” to me, turning the gain up felt more different.

The Fractal and Plini sound closest to the original imo. They seem to hold it together better, note separation is clearer.

very close. I had to move to the 0:23 mark of each clip to really start hearing the differences when the heavily saturated parts begin.
The Fractal sounds the most compressed?
Plini and Helix seem to have a few more mids.
All are good.

Have you been spying on me? I was actually remastering the BE models the past few days. Nice to see someone understand the importance of the Negative Feedback control. The newer BE-100s have the feedback off the 4-ohm tap. This corresponds to a Negative Feedback setting of about 3.87 so you're really close at 3.63. Scary close actually.

Just using my ears/following my instinct ha. Think I’ve asked you before about how the values relate to the impedance taps but I wasn’t sure if it applied here and just went with what felt right.

The NFB control is probably my favourite parameter to tweak inside Fractal products. Love that it’s available.

I think you’ve got some tone shaping magic my dude, you’ve got an ear for it 💯

The C45 on the Helix placater adds too much high end. I would have turned that off to try and match the amp tone closer.
